I bet both work equally as well. You could always test them out at the store to get a direct feel for them.

I have irwins and am happy with them

I inherited a bunch of those. Total of four different names on them. Paint them all black and no one could tell the slightest difference. Just go for the cheapest and get an extra or two if you expect to abuse them.

I have the Irwin brand and they work well. The set was purchased a few years ago and no problems.

I'd go with Irwin. They've been around a long time, and their clamps have always worked good.

I have both. I have an assortment of Irwin. They work great for me. I needed a few extra larger clamps and the local hd only had the dewalt in stock. The dewalt once’s seem a bit more durable, but they were fairly expensive.

I have a longer (36"?) set of Irwins and another set of some cheap knockoffs. Truthfully, I don't care for any of them. I prefer the screw type.

I would lean to Irwin over Dewalt in this category.

I have a set (of I think Jorgensen), and they are not my favorites. I prefer my screw Bessey K body or regular F clamps over that style, but they are much pricier. These are good for one handed setting, but I often switch to the screws once things are set up.

I have them both, no difference.

BTW, Stanley Black and Decker owns both companies, I bet both brands are running off of the same production machines.

Just dont buy the cheap HF ones. Absolute garbage to the point of being comical.

I just bought a couple of the heavy duty DeWalt ones and they seem decent. They dont look like anything Irwin sells so if they are out of the same factory then they're running entirely different molds. Even the pads are different.

i have the Dewalt versions in 30-36" in that ballpark. used them on one single project and they were fine for that use. i'lll use them again in the future i'm sure, and be equally satisfied for what they are.

No experience with the DeWalt, but I own a handful of the Irwin, bought the first ones when I remodeled the house in 01, have added a few more since. They’ve been fantastic. Very happy with them

I have some of each - I think they work equally well.

I agree this is one thing not to buy from Harbor Freight - I had a couple of those and they were a very poor version and flexed when clamped tightly. I think they eventually failed. It's worth it to buy the better brand.

I have dozens of the most basic Irwin's dating back 20yrs now. They have gotten progressively cheaper IMO.
The more expensive HD models are ok, but clunky.

The Dewalts are a little nicer, less flex, good trigger action, decent clamping for that style.

Performance is close enough that I'd go with the best purchase price. That's why I have both.

The heavier duty Irwins are worth the money over the standard version ( which used to have yellow pads). The hd's have bigger pads and you can really tighten them. The standards have more of an 'on/off' clamping force bit like a cheap screw vise.. you can't modulate and get more out of them... but they still work well.

I have a few craftsman ones from the days, they break so now I am less likely going for these type of clamps.

Perhaps not helpful, but last year I returned back to Lowes an old and broken clamp, perhaps 15 years old (hey, lifetime guarantee). Because Lowes no longer sells Kobalt clamps, so they gave me a comparable Irwin. The Irwin was noticeably less robust, the bar was thinner, and the plastic, well, um, more plasticky.

I have several different sizes of the dewalt clamps in my shop that I use for everyrhing . I recently finished a basement for my family and had to get some clamps there at the house because they didnt have any. I got the Irwins because thats what the LHS had.

I much prefer the Dewalts. I can't exactly explain why now that im back home and dont have both in front of me but just the feel of the clamps is better and in particular the button that reverses the static jaw work ls much better.

Granted, I used the Dewalts first and for much longer so im just in tune with them but I though I should say something since I have recent experience with both.

The ones pictured are the exact same. I work for Stanley Black a Decker and looked up the model #s on both and they all come out the same area. One is just a different color. This is one of those times go with the cheapest of the 2.

These are the 12" clamps without the reversing jaw so they are indeed closer than the larger versions but as to your assertion that they are "the exact same", that's easily disputed by looking at the pictures.

The mold for the ribs is clearly different in both the body and the handle, the static jaw of the dewalt is not removable (no fastner) while the Irwin clearly has a phillips screw showing, and the pads of the Irwin are completely smooth while the Dewalt has a horizontal and vertical notch for centering the jaw on corners and rounds stock.

Though I'm not disputing it is possible, I don't know why the manufacturer would go through all the trouble of making the two clamps completely different if they come from the same factory.

I'd like to hear from those who haver the HD Irwin clamps. I have some old Irwin clamps (probably 15+ years old and while not cheap/junk they have their limits. The newer HD Irwin clamps have a lot of accessories that makes them more versatile (for a price). From the videos you can also connect the bars of 2 clamps to double your clamp distance. Don't know if DeWalt or others have those features.

because you want people to pay more for the dewalt version so you using 80% similar pieces and change to dies and then bam new product
