Just wondering if its my luck w/ house hunting, or is this normal with most houses.
is a 19' deep attached garage norm?

A lot of the newer houses are going to smaller garages to increase interior space. 19' is a little short however. The house I just bought has a 18X20 for reference

depends where you actually measure too, i lose about 4 inches on each size because of the blocks

Mine is a nominal 20X20, but the actual floor only measures about 19' or so. I suspect that yours is a standard 20' (nominal) deep attatched garage.

My attached garage is 32'wide x 26' deep. It has (2) 9x7 doors and (2) 36"wide man doors. One is at the back going to the back yard and one is on the side that that leads to the 38'wide x 24'deep detached garage.

One more thing to keep in mind when measuring is the depth of the overhead doors. The door is mounted on the inside of the wall, & with the thickness of the actual door, the tracks, the rollers, as well as the horizontal struts/supports, it could take up another 6" of space. It wouldn't matter with a modern daily driver, but with older cars, full size pick ups & SUV's, they won't fit.
I had a 30' deep by 19' wide attached garage in my first home. It was the size of a three car garage but on its end (two cars wide with plenty of room at the far end)
We sold that home a couple of years ago-

My new home has three seperate garages with 6 stalls (and a covered RV pad to boot)
Actually - 19' deep does seem kind of tight. Especially if you have anything on the back wall.

As mentioned above, 19' is tight. It's kinda funny, many builders are shrinking the garage to make the living space bigger as we are all now buying king size SUV's.
I'm a builder. When I was building condos 3 years ago the building inspector measured the inside length of the garage, in this particular city the minimum inside measurement is 20'.

Sorry for the old-thread resurrection but I was looking for info on people with 20' wide garages:
I suppose you had a single garage door on that, right? It would look odd to have 2 single doors so close. My future design will be 20' wide (lot restrictions) and am trying to make a 2-door look OK.
A house I'm selling has a garage 21 deep x 19 wide with single 16' door. I wouldn't want any shallower for a 2 car. Difficult to walk from the furthest car to the door since the house entrance door is on the side nearest the 1st car left front corner.
This garage also doesn't have an outside access door.
I parked 2 standard F-150 pickups in it the other day. It was packed.
My personal house has a 24 x 24 with two 9 foot wide doors with the house entrance door between cars and an outside access door. Plenty of room for the Expedition and pick up and looks symetrical with 2 feet between doors and doors and corners.
At 20 feet wide 2 single doors will be tight and 8 foot wide doors are a pain for daily use unless you're parking Civics, Escorts etc...
I've seen them with the doors real close, they do look a little wierd.

The official measurements (from the brochure, that is) for my garage is 19.5 square, with a single door. Inside, due to blocks, it's less than 19'. My Venture fits with enough room to juuuuuust get the tailgate up. Getting two cars inside is another story...
