Is a floor drain required in a shop basement per building code?

I am building a 36’ x 80’ shop that will have a 16’ x 36’ basement. I am putting in a poured wall foundation and the lot slopes which allows a basement for not much more $. Basement will be for for storage only, is a floor drain required?

I ask as the street sewer is on the high side of the property and basement floor will be lower than the sewer line.

Floor drains mostly banned or strictly regulated. BUT - you'll need to ask your local inspector for the specifics.

36x80 is a great shop size! Good luck with it.

Let me be clearer, not asking about drain in main shop floor but the basement area.

Drainage system with pit and sump pump would be 'required' IMHO. Recently built addition not quite as big as yours, but about half was basement, used interior French drain system to funnel water to pit and sump pump. It works great.

It may help if you filled out your location. Then perhaps we can determine what code you are under.

Sump pit in the corner with a cover and a receptacle near it. Go through one year and you will know if you need to install a pump.
A floor drain is not required.

you are below grade, you're going to want weeping tiles. you then need a sump pump. so a floor drain is not a big deal. perhaps you can use the sump pit for a drain? as others have said, you need to contact the authority.
