Is anyone else mildly or extremely OCD about their tools/box?

Yes and no. As long tools make it back to the drawer they came from all is okay. Coworkers were messing with me one day and swapped drawers around on my tool box. I didn't miss a beat, kept opening drawers till I found what I wanted and went about my business.

My biggest concern is that my hand tools are put back in the proper drawer, and clean. I have an assortment of everything, some truck brands, Wright, SK, CM and Tekton, among others. Mot everything is a complete set. Tools are just that, something to get a job done.

I have mistched tools as well, mainly sockets from various socket sets bought on sale at great prices and then adding others that weren't in the set, doesn't bug me, now organization of tools I am a little OCD about.

I'm just OCD'ish about my tool being dirty. I always clean them up after each use. They have to be super clean and in their place of course and organized of course. So yes, I guess I am.

Guilty as charged thank the good lord I am color blind or they would have locked me up years ago. Darn those Hanson socket trays as soon as I start a project I go nuts looking for the lost sockets only to realize I never had the socket in question in the first place!

As I get older then my age of 21...cough, cough, cough, it gets easier but dang it *****.:lol_hitti

I like my tool put back in the box in the correct drawer.
I have a friend who has a shop and his tools are where he left them. I bet he spends more time looking for tools or the size socket he needs then he does working on customers cars. I just could not have my tools on the floor or ground where they fell last. I mean inside and outside his shop is the same way.

I like my tools put back. If you don't know where they go leave it on top... I hate looking for a tool only to find out someone is using it. Just effn tell me. I hate wasting time searching for my tools.

Yes I get OCD about it. I'm so OCD about it that I color coded my sockets for easy ID when sitting on my cart with a bunch of other tools and yes it helps out a lot. Any don't tool manufacturers do this already. No I'm not interested in the HF color coded sockets..

More along the lines of what wera does. Wera 8100 SB KC Zyklop 3/8" SAE Socket Set https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017NJWIUK/?tag=atomicindus08-20

It is a bit of an issue but I work through it and struggle to ignore the issue. For instance I already have 2 channellock pliers and they're the only pliers I had, so I asked specifically for blue handled channellock pliers for Christmas. I received two 2 packs of craftsman pliers, one made in Germany that looks like knipex and one made in the US that look like channellock, none the same as the two channellock I own. I had to first check if they were what I thought they were then I struggled over if I should return them for hours. I'm not even concerned about warranty since I figure they won't wear out for years but the black handles being stored with the blue handles when they are the same type of item is difficult to reconcile. Although I've opened them and determined to keep them I still haven't put them away with the two others for the same reason even though I intend to.
I can ignore differences when they are stored in different locations and the company makes them different. So my Klein needle nose and side cutters have different color handles but that's just how Klein does it which changes things in my mind and they get stored in the electrical bag which means they aren't with my channellocks or I would have issues with it. Being able to think of something as a different tool helps as well, so all screwdrivers in the bag are craftsman, but all the square drive are another brand, wiha I believe, I can think of the square drive as a different type of tool so their having a different handle is ok as long as all the square drive are the same.
It is stupid, I know and understand this but that doesn't make it easier to accept the differences. Basically the work around is to convince myself that something that is different is better or find an excuse.

The Dewalt to Milwaukee thing is not just about having all the same color, or being brand loyal. There is a legitimate reason to stick with one brand of shop power tools—battery and chargers. I use all Ryobi green at home, and for the most part, I like them a lot. I have both 18v and 40v setups, and having a stable battery style for all of my tools really is nice, as I don't need 4 or 5 chargers taking up space or a bunch of different battery packs to buy for everything. A universal garage charging system is a nice thing to have.

Now, having said that, my boss has the M18 Milwaukee Fuel stuff and just got me an M12 Milwaukee heated hoodie, and it has me considering cheating on my Ryobi tools.

For me, the thought of having multiple charging and battery systems bugs me more than the difference in colors, COO or brands. Don't think that I haven't thought about replacing my Ryobi pieces just about every day since I played with the M18 Fuel tools, though.

Don't the Milwaukee 18v tools take a different battery and charger than the 12v tools?

I wish I had the money and patience to have one of those super organized garages. I certainly do feel better when my shop is all clean and the tools are in their places.
I love a clean shop. I have guys tell if I worked at a busy shop I wouldn't have time to clean my tools, that is just not true.

I worry more about them being clean before I put them away.

I'm a little OCD in the sense that I like to keep my sockets of the same brand because...I have 3 different tool situations. Home, travel and junk yard tool boxes. I'm not always the best at putting things back, so if I have a 10mm socket out, I know where it goes by brand. Craftsman USA goes in the home box, Husky goes in the travel box, and Performance Tool/Pittsburgh goes in the junkyard box. Simple. I tend to buy sets for the travel/junk yard boxes as it's easier to keep track of and tell if things are missing. My home box has a mix of everything with no particular color, brand or style. Just the best tool for the job.

Does harbor freight have a nice 72 tooth and 3/8 socket set? I'd like to pick up a set for travel/junkyard aswell since I just got a box and threw all my sockets from the husky blow molded case.

I honestly LOVE having different brands of tools. I do not like different brands throughout my sets. My CM raised panels are all raised panels and all USA. If one breaks I rather buy a used USA off ebay rather than a new mismatched china one.

I feel pliers are better to be mis matched. You need a few channels, a few vice grips, some knipex. Then you need specialty tools that these above companies do not make..I dont think I am OCD.

Everything needs to be wiped down and put back after each job.

I like my stuff to be organized but I buy the basics and add specialty items I need for a specific job and that's how it get into my box. Brands or colors make zero difference to me.

I'm more concerned about the quality level. I buy a lot of second hand tools so matching is not reality anyway.

This is a very good setup. 72 tooth ratchet, and the sockets are made in Taiwan. It does skip the 18mm socket, but you add a 22mm. I had this set before I knew about Tekton, otherwise I would have considered them.

http://m.homedepot.com/p/TEKTON-3-8-in-Drive-5-16-7-8-in-10-19-mm-Socket-Set-22-Piece-1061/205627708

This set has a similar 72 tooth ratchet, but with 6 point sockets. With ratchets having such small swing rates these days, I use my 12 points less and less. This set doesn't have any skips. I love how attentive Tekton is about their customer service, fantastic!

If its a set of handtools they HAVE to be the same for that set. This is why I only have cman sockets and wrenches except for a USA husky 7/8 and 1 in. I try to keep cordless powertools the same so i only have to worry about 1 kind of battery.

I guess I'm not real OCD.

I only became concerned when I found the dog had removed half my Craftsman sockets from the set, and was playing with them around the yard.

Never did find most of them.
