I recently came about some crocus cloth from an estate sale and I like the way it works. I had never heard about it until this. I only have a couple sheets and want to get more but it doesn't seem widely available:headscrat Please educate me.

It should be readily available in rolls or sheets. Just do a goole search for suppliers in your area.

Go to an industrial supplier or a jobber, you won't find that in Lowes or Home depot or Wal-Mart.

I believe it is also call emery cloth or 3M™ Utility Cloth Sheet 011K. Fine, medium and coarse.

It normally comes 50 sheets to the pack. If you want a whole pack you can buy it on Amazon or eBay. You might find smaller quantities on eBay.

crocus cloth is finer than emery cloth. It may seem expensive but the trick is to not throw it out after use. 600 grit becomes 800, 1200, 1600 ect the more you use it. Engine rebuilders will have some old belts around to do the final polish on the journals.

I just found out from reading metaldads reference that crocus cloth has the same grit size as emery (1500 to 2000) but emery has harder grit.

I just found out from reading metaldads reference that crocus cloth has the same grit size as emery (1500 to 2000) but emery has harder grit.

Emery is also electrically condctive and should never be used on electric motor rotors and such and it can cause armature shorts.

Crocus cloth is red rouge buffing compound applied to linen cloth. It is not waterproof; the rouge will wash right out of the cloth.
