The whole nature of 'design' is that things go 'out of style,' as you bring new things into style. It is a planned obsolescence, intended to make you buy the 'next new thing,' when the old thing is still serving perfectly well.
When we got a '20-year' linoleum put into the entryway, the salesperson told us we'd take this out and replace it, because we were tired of the design, long before it showed any real wear.
I remember when olive green was in style as a kid, then it was out of style, then it was back in style. Diamond plate will do the same thing.
I think the 'stainless steel kitchen' has just about run its course too. People went to stainless steel because it simulated a professional kitchen, but there are going to be a LOT of people dumping stainless steel appliances soon enough.
I saw some diamond plate on the floor of the elevator at the parking lot at the Las Vegas airport...it had been worn smooth from years of being walked on and rolled over with suitcases.
I actually like it...as an accent or a protector in high-wear areas. I don't want a whole cabinet made of it, but I do like it as an accent.
I guess that's about all I have to say about diamond plate.
