I originally liked the idea of the 1' x 1' diamond plate tiles that are available in different anodized colors. I was going to have a section of those on the bottom portion of my walls for durability but now I'm not so sure anymore. My previous garage had black and white VCT on the bottom portion and saved the walls from being damaged.

Passe' is passe'.
Diamond plate is over-used.
My enclosed trailer has a diamond plate stone guard, but that is the only piece of it that I own.
Mullets are ok on chicks that drive monster trucks, though ;)

The whole nature of 'design' is that things go 'out of style,' as you bring new things into style. It is a planned obsolescence, intended to make you buy the 'next new thing,' when the old thing is still serving perfectly well.

When we got a '20-year' linoleum put into the entryway, the salesperson told us we'd take this out and replace it, because we were tired of the design, long before it showed any real wear.

I remember when olive green was in style as a kid, then it was out of style, then it was back in style. Diamond plate will do the same thing.

I think the 'stainless steel kitchen' has just about run its course too. People went to stainless steel because it simulated a professional kitchen, but there are going to be a LOT of people dumping stainless steel appliances soon enough.

I saw some diamond plate on the floor of the elevator at the parking lot at the Las Vegas airport...it had been worn smooth from years of being walked on and rolled over with suitcases.

I actually like it...as an accent or a protector in high-wear areas. I don't want a whole cabinet made of it, but I do like it as an accent.

I guess that's about all I have to say about diamond plate.

..........What was it's original intended purpose?

Pretty sure it's original design was intended for it's strength to weight ratio as well as wearability like has been said, it wears on the high surfaces and leaves the flats clean and untouched. But, yes it has been over played. I do think it has its uses though. Like to put in the over played "man cave":lol_hitti. Society has to wear out what once were functional useful things by turning them into trends and burning them out.
