On new construction I have a 20 amp outlet in the cabinet above the over the range microwave. Is a GFCI required?
If you are on the 2014 NEC and within 6' of the sink then technically you need one. I haven't heard of this being enforced, though.
Easier to access/reset.
But yea, if it isn't installed properly it's a waste.
Except for the fact that the outlet is probably inaccessible...

A GFCI breaker is obviously in the panel so u have to walk to the panel and reset it.
And the breaker is 3-4 times the price of a receptacle.
Those microwaves always have 120 on the bulb but connect the neutral to turn the bulb on..

I have seen same in some controllers when using scrap controllers as timers for other functions. Surprised me also. But when asking how low voltage electronics can best control that light, then the reason why was obvious.I highly doubt the neutral is switched.
