How often do get on GJ to read posts? For myself once a day during the week and twice a day on the weekends. Before I started this post I was thinking I need to get off my ****, get out to the garage and get something done.

It is both addicting and motivating. As you can see by my post count, I post often enough, it consumes a fair amount of time. The real problem is all of the tools and shelves, and workbenches you didn't know you needed. :)

Addictive and the best idea sharing site around. As has been said, if you need to know, you'll find it here. Anything from Aunt Slanders to Bob Vila.

Its not only addicting, but can get expensive. There are things on here that I didn't know they made and now I feel I need them. But it is the best site out there and some great ideas, Ed.

I live in a remote town in a third world country, don't have relatives apart from my mom and dad within 300km from me, have only two friends and even live a fair way out of town. So social media is my friends some days. As all the people around me very rarely share my views, taste and interests. GJ has opened a new world to me, where I would normally be mowing the lawn and dozing off in front of the tv with the a/c on over a weekend, I now build stuff, fix stuff, clean stuff, arrange stuff in my garage.

Addictive, maybe, great source for research and knowledge, definitely.

My name is zkling and I have a problem. I've been a member for years, but in the past year I have posted much more than the previous years combined. Why IDK. :dunno: There are worse things you could be addicted to.

I've been reading for about 5 months, posting for a few weeks.. In that time I've probably spent $3000 on the garage, built some cabinets, bought toolboxes, started building a new table, ready to break down the stairs in favor of some other ideas I've seen around... I read through about once a day where I'm like, "Oh that's cool I should do that."

Only once a day??? You must not have been bitten yet... I scan for updates to subscribed topics via my iPhone before breakfast, randomly throughout the day and look through new threads periodically through the evening.

Just wait until the urges to buy rusted chunks of American forged steel become insatiable, and your shop starts filling up with stuff and your bank account begins running dry. Then the ideas to build unique or better storage systems start piling up which makes you need more tools to build said storage systems which makes you need more tools to repair/restore/sharpen your other tools which makes you need more and better storage methods which makes you need more tools to build......

But hey, I can stop whenever I want. Really.

Addicting....Oh hell no!!!!!! I now spend more time out in the garage than I ever did, and on the computer more. My two largest downfalls WITH my garage are one...a stocked fridge, and two....a computer in the garage.

Because of GJ, I have probably rearranged my garage 4 or 5 times, built benches just as many, and probably repainted it as much also. I'm just waiting for the time that I can pull the trigger on epoxy flooring, or VCT, or porcelain, or, or, or.......

I hear it is so bad there are chapters of Garage Journal Anonyomous starting up. So far I only own 4 vises, when a 6 months ago I only owned one, a nice workbench is now in my garage and I am buying a two post lift from a member. Hope the wife does not ban me from this site! Addictive without a doubt but also a great resource!

I check it at least once a day, even if I don't post. My problem is that I usually stay up late, so I'm on when there isn't a lot of traffic and it gets a little slow sometimes, so I'm really just playing catch-up every day haha

Yes. Without a doubt. Great seeing what other guys are up to. I gain knowledge, ideas, inspiration. My skill set improves. Definitely a win win situation.

I've been on here for a while and yes, it is addictive. But hey, I don't smoke any more, don't gamble, don't do drugs, don't hunt or fish, and am not a sports guy per say. I like fixing, repairing, building, painting, restoring. No kids....got to spend it somewhere!

There is no doubt that it is addictive. But, in a good way....!!

I check every morning before work and occasionally at night. With winter around the corner, I will spend more time on the site. Have gathered many ideas from people and incorporated them into the garage and my shop too.

Joined about four years ago but I don't post that often, BUT, I am lurking somewhere on the forum!!

Yes, it is very addicting. I have suddenly become very addicted to vintage tools and will snub all other tools that are not vintage for the most part when searching for new tools. I also have managed to double my tool boxes and tool count since joining. I also have been pointed to the finer tool brands that I would never have known about if not for this place. SK, Plvmb, Blackhawk, Bonney, and the list goes on. If I don't check in once a day I really miss it :) The most addicting thread on here- The 2013 Garage sale finds thread, hands down!

Just did the rocksolid floors promo deal. As we're finishing with that, the maxjax lift group buy happened. I was talking with the wife about it and she did mention "...so what do I get now?" Somehow I think she meant more than just flowers lol.

Not addicted per-se, just one method to pass time at work while the engine's running on test and I have nothing else to do. I'm definitely quickly acquiring a finer, more distinguishing taste in tools though.
