I'd avoid AMZN for brand name calipers/micrometers, too many stories of possible fakes. Why chance it? MSI-Viking is a solid source and pricing is competitive.
For sure, buying from a reputable company will avoid fakes.
Does anyone have personal experience with Global Test Supply? They seem to have the best prices on Mitutoyo at the moment.

I was looking at their website for air compressor plumbing parts. I went to Google and typed in their name with the word review after it. Nothing but bad news is what I found.

Amazon is hit or miss. My apprentice scored his digital Mitutoyo mics and calipers from Amazon and they were perfectly fine. My other apprentice received the wrong calipers twice but Amazon did come through in the end. Paying attention to the seller is the biggest indicator for Amazon stuff. Generally, I go through MSC or Zoro for my precision tools. I know they are a bit more expensive but I trust them way more than anyone else. If you do the cart trick, Zoro will drop 10% or 15% coupons for your items.

I bought Mitutoyo 500-196-30 digital calipers from GlobalTestSupply and am convinced that they are real.

The bad reviews seem focused on poor after-sales support and not complaints about fraudulent products, which plague Amazon, For what it's worth, searching for "acme tools review" or "cpo outlets review" also produces many negative reviews, and I regard these companies positively.
