Is it a problem to reduce to 3/8 from 1/2 on Vertical compressor?

I am getting ready to setup my PUMA 6060V compressor and I have purchased 3/8 Jet Air Filter/Regulator. I want to know if it is an issue to reduce to 3/8 on the ball valve. I plan on using a 3/8 WHIP to the Air Filter and then a 3/8 WHIP to a 3/8 hose reel.

This compressor will primarily be used to power air wrenches.

Thanks

You can. I can tell you though, I did that originally when roughing in the compressor at work... 3/8" hose with 1/4NPT fittings, and reducers all over. I upgraded to a bigger 1/2" ball valve on the tank, Goodyear hoses with 1/2NPT fittings I got off Amazon and reducers only at the filter after upgrading to V-type disconnects. The V-types made a big difference alone, but upgrading both HUGELY increased tool power.

If your not running i long line from compressor to the filter to the hose it will be ok.

This is what I am planning.

Compressor - 1/2 Ball Valve - 1/2 to 3/8 Reducer - 3/8 3' WHIP - 3/8 Air Filter - 3/8 3' WHIP - 3/8 Hose Reel with 50' hose.

Compressor - 1/2 Ball Valve - 1/2 3' WHIP - 1/2 to 3/8 Reducer - 3/8 Air Filter - 1/2 to 3/8 Reducer - 1/2 3' WHIP - 1/2 to 3/8 Reducer - 3/8 Hose Reel with 50' hose.

That's what I'd do. ;) Or get a filter with bigger ports, but that's probably unnecessary. But for the cost of 2 more reducers and buying 1/2" hoses instead of 3/8", you can keep you airflow as high as possible. Or at least keep it 1/2" until the adapter at the filter inlet, go to 3/8" from there and figure the filter is restrictive enough that a little more flow downstream won't help.

Running impacts with ample pressure and flow is a wonderful thing.

So, I ended up returning the 3/8 hoses and filter and switched to 1/2 hoses and filter. I will then use a 1/2 to 3/8 reducer at the hose reel.
