I got a message that the limit is now 60 minutes. There is an edit button, until it is 60 minutes past the post timestamp- thgen if you reload the page the edit button is gone.


I asked if this is a recent change...

DNS attacks on this site of all sites?! Seems like a dumb target. It could be time to have the host block certain blocks of IPs for areas you don't intend to have as a target audience. We've blocked most of Russia, both Korea's, China, etc.

GJ Site Issue

2 times in the last month I have gotten this error when trying to come to this site. First time it was for about an hour and yesterday it was several hours. Tried with another browser and internet provider and still got it.

Anyone else run in to this?

Yes. There are a couple of threads on this already.

I'm probably incorrect about the specifics, but .... Yesterday, in one of these threads, Ryan said GJ's site was experiencing DOS (Denial of Service attacks) from Nigeria.

Maybe. But it's all a numbers game. In this case it wasn't from that region, but lets say it was this time..

With a hack, say 250k members can't use the site. Say there are 50 members in the Ukraine. Is the right to use GJ for those 50 superior to those of 249,950 others?

I was using more of an example of countries, but blocking huge chunks of foreign addresses where the hacks begin is a bandaid, but one I've found effective. Saves a ton of money on bandwidth too. It just requires Ryan to go through the access logs and figure out what countries are doing it.

I'd prefer hackers just end up with **** cancer, but ...

Consider it another way that you are an Alliance member and your location is blocked and how that works for you.

Couldn't reach the G.J forums around 17.00 GMT, give or take half an hour - tried several times and got the 508 error. Happened to me also 1-2 weeks ago.
