Or does this seem priced kinda high. Guy has been trying to sell it for the past year. I am thinking it is not worth more than 100-150 at most. And i don't see it weighing anywhere near 170#!

Price is high yes but i would guess it does weigh 170. I have a chas parker 6" that is not as beefy that weighs 130

Yeah nothing really to compare it to in the pic. That vise is TALLLLLLL. A lot of solid iron in that. IMO if you need a large 6" vise $250-$300 would be reasonable for that.

I like that vise and called him when I was going through the area last year and offered $150. No disrepect, but what could it hurt. He said no.

That vise spec matches my parker 289 1/2 so I will agress it weight 170 lbs at least. I paid $200 for mine which is above the standard $1 per lbs. $250 tops for that one. I hate when people use it cost this much new so mine is worth this.

As for the Morgan... meh... The value of a vise (to me) is partially condition, but also partially do I like it's "style"... Also a little bit of "how much would I use this"... The more plain a vise is, the less desirable it is to me. Some vises like the old Prentiss' and Parkers' just have a neat look.

As for when people say, "This vise retailed for $X new..." That's great... would you pay full "new" price for a 20 year old car? Didn't think so...

I have no relation to the seller but it seems to me most of the posters in this thread are blind because they can't see the saw horse in that pic and also most of you seem to think this thing is supposed to be pretty in pink sitting out for display.

A lot has to do with location. People up in the north & north east find vises for $20 that us down in the south would have to pay $100+ for. It's all about location, location, location...

His price is kinda high but I'd put the value much closer to his asking price then "100-150".

Think so? then why has it been for sale for the past year and not sold? Oh yeh WAY over priced! These nut heads around here always do the "it cost ** new, i only want 2/3rd's of that for used junk" Always see hf junk listed for more than you can buy new for.

It kind of depends on what a person will use it for though. I'm sure there are people today buying them NEW @ retail cost as a necessary tool for their business. However for an individual that just wants it to sit on their shelf as a trophy piece obviously thinks of its value in totally different perspective.

Just FYI, I paid more than that for my Reed 4C. However, I found exactly what I wanted and in the condition I was looking for. The price for them can be all over the place, one guy found a 4C on CL for like $250, while another sold on eBay for $1,200+... It's just about location, condition, desirability, and who really *wants* it... I think what I paid was a fair deal, considering what I would of payed in hefty shipping I was able to put in the seller's pocket since he brought it to town with him on a business trip and I was able to meet him to pick it up. Not everyone is lucky with those $10 barn or basement finds...

Good anvils and vices go for $3 per pound and up. Rare items can be double and triple. I just sold a 300 pound anvil for $1200. It was form the rail road. I have another one just like it or I would not have sold it.

170 x $3 = $510 and double it for how rare a vice that is and it is $1020. I deal with all kinds of used tools and more of them are wood working tools. I have been to a lot of tool shows and antique shows. I don't think he is that far out of line. I have seen vices sell for a $1,000. I am not up on all the current prices sense the recession which has lowered prices except for mechanic tools. Snappies have gone up sense the recession hit. Go figure.
If he is willing to sell it for a grand I think he is about on the money.

If you need it, its worth whatever the market price is, if you don't need and just want one, no harm in waiting for a good deal or a great one.
