Looking at an old toolbox on marketplace......if I buy it I will do a backyard restore (sand/paint) but most definitely not going for museum quality, better than new, etc. There are a couple manufacturer stickers that I would prefer to keep as is. Is it possible to mask (or other method) to protect the delicate decals? Really dont want to re-sticker but guess I will if it makes the most sense.

3M blue painters tape and an exacto knife is all you need to mask them off.

It may be possible to have a local sign shop scan your stickers and reproduce them. I am having a sign shop reproduce the gauge face on an 80 year old tachometer.
Get extra copies made and sell them to your "friends."

What exactly did they need to reproduce the face? These have degraded to the point where the original colors are not present.

The sign shop needs the face separated for the scan. I asked for sticky-back reproduction faces.
It is best if you take pictures to take with you. Maybe you could check on-line for someone making the stickers you need saved.

Yellow frog tape or or 3m 2080 is what I'd use. I restored one of my Dad's old Snappy boxes and loved the stickers so much I had to preserve them. Yellow frog is my favorite.

I've been told that when painting window frames, rub bar soap on the glass, paint, then scrub off the soap. guess it would depend on the surface condition of the stickers
