I went to a yard sale that was suppose to have tools, I asked and was told what little that was left was in the garage. In the corner was what says it is a snap on base with tools I paid 50.00 but not too many good tools, except an set of 3/8 drive snap on swivel impact sockets. I feel I got my money worth in just the sockets. I looked on the back and in the drawers for the snap on stamp, but could not find one...Rich

$50

Yes as busted said above, it is a KR557 late 70's to early 80's. I thought they were all stamped on the back :dunno:

You can get a set of keys for ~$7 shipped w/o the snap on logo (ebay). Or ~$10 each with the snap on logo (LDV lock company).

That's definitely a snap on box. What you'll probably have to do is wheel it out into the sunlight and look hard. It's likely in a corner on the back. Sometimes the manufacturing stamp is so faded it's hard to see, and other times it jumps out at you. When it's faint, it's virtually impossible to see unless you have the box in direct sunlight.

But it's a Snappy box. You did very, very well, getting all that for $50.

I need a key for it, the code is 1379. Any one with a spare? Rich

There are usually a number of sellers on eBay who will code cut and deliver keys for older locks. Are you sure it isn't Y379? I thought the Y series locks were used on boxes of that era, but yours may be older.

Eh, it could have gotten caught up in the transition. The late 70's is when they changed lock code designations. It very well could be just a 4 # job, no letter since the 557 had been around since the early 70's. :dunno:

I went out and looked again, still no number or id on the back, and the number for the lock is 1379, I am sure about that. I took the drawers out because I could hear some thing in the case, There was another hand full of craftsman socket. Then I saw a key and I thought that I should go buy a lottery ticket, I pulled out the key and it said snap-on on the key. The key was a Y9 and would not even go into the lock. While looking at the lock it looks like there is red paint in side it, maybe this has been repainted. So I have a Y9 key if some one needs it. Rich

You got some very good tools. You should sleep okay. There's lots of guys worried about brands on here when they buy suspect stuff but there's really more important stuff to worry about because at the end of the day it's just a box intended to hold stuff. Even if it's a p.o.s. it still will hold stuff.

You got 40 bucks worth of proto there and probably 50 worth of snap on. (my opinion of course, will be a slight low ball) Free **** box. Look at it that way.

Well weather nick has no ideal of what he is talking about or not, I think that is the way I am going to think about this deal. I got a great set of snap on metric universal impact sockets and a set of good crows feet socket. I may trade the box off to some one. But in the end I have more tools for my tool box...Thanks to each and every one of you guys.
Rsanter if you find the lock set and want to get rid of it, let me know...Rich

Dude, he got a goddamn snap-on box, and a pretty reasonably big one, he came out many hundreds of dollars ahead on each PART of the purchase.
