Is it worth upgrading?

I have craftsman slip joint pliers, multi groove pliers, and needle nose pliers, I was wondering if it's worth To get the snap on set thro the discount now while I have it or am I better off getting the screw drivers over craftsman clear plastics. And no I cant tell an Oder.

Hardy har har. I have seen some crazy postings about clear handles that have odors. Tounge in cheek.

It takes a long time for those handles to break down.
By the time they do, you will probably have upgraded anyway.

Personally, I'd go with upgrading to the Snap-On screwdrivers before pliers. Major upgrade from the clear CM screwdrivers to the Snap-Ons.

There are better deals on excellent pliers/cutters than Snap-On offers through the SEP program. Klein, Knipex, Channellock, or Williams USA (blue handled Snap-On) are all great choices.

Upgrade the screwdrivers. You can get nice USA made pliers from Channellock for cheaper than the Snap On even with the student discount. IMO the Channellock pliers are the best value in USA made tools out there.

Snap-on screwdrivers are so much better than craftsmans its not even funny. Handles are much more comfortable, they have a bolster for using the box end of a wrench to apply more torque, blasted tips, plus ACR grooves in the phillips tips.

Look into klein screwdrivers. They're excellent and not overpriced like tool truck screwdrivers.

Thanks guys. I have been wanting the drivers, I didn't know there was that much different in them. I like the ability to get quality tools at a decent price. Even though 60 is pretty good chunk of change for so e screw drivers.

It's not a bad price at all for something you will seriously use on a regular basis, and will make you more than that in a day. Every little improvement in tools helps.

I prefer the craftsman drivers. The handles just feel good to me. I better load up in them while they are still USA. Maybe its just cause I grew up using them around the house.

I'd use cheap till I got a good paying job, my student loans payed off. 1st things first. PS youi can buy almost new tools much cheaper than new. New new cars, you loose 1/2 the value when they drive of the tool truck. Tools are like

i would much rather have the debt from student loan than from snap on because the interest is capped low and i dont start paying untill six months after graduation. not to mention the half price discount.

i looked on ebay for both sets and it was still cheaper to get them new. plus its nice to be able to have my first real tools new to hand down to my son someday.

As far as pliers, I would say from SO, long needle noses and the 3 postion slip joint pliers. Other then that, those craftsman pliers will problably work fine for the rest of your life. The screwdrivers, yead those you can toss in my book. If you want to save your discount for something expensive, Williams hard handle screwdrivers are basically the same as the beloved SO hard handles for really good prices.

i've been using channellock brand pliers since i started wrenching over 25 years ago.

i do like my knipex dykes

and prefer SO hardhandle screwdrivers, old SK and old mac hard handle screwdrivers run a close 2nd & 3rd.

I've always liked Craftsman pliers. I'd upgrade on cutters eventually, but the Craftsman pliers will last forever.

upgrade the craftsman screwdrivers to snap on SDDX70AG and upgrade the pliers to snap on or KNIPEX.

knipex makes very good pliers but they are nearly as expensive as snap on

I would get the 8pc scredriver set. Like I said even with the discount the channellock pliers are just as good or better in some cases than the SnapON. I have most all my screwdrivers(torx etc) from Snap On because the tips hld up the best from all others I have used.I bought a 5pc Cornwell(witte) for my road set and I think these may actually be better. I do own some Snap On pliers but they are ones not available from Channellock.

Wife picked up several pairs of Craftsman needle-nose pliers for me one Christ-mas, and the first time I used one, it broke in half.

Snap-On pliers and drivers are generations better than craftsman, and always will be.

For the buck, and also lifetime warranted, look at Wiha drivers. 1/3 the price of SO, and most likely the largest selection of handle styles in the world.

Regardless of what you buy, get a 12" long #2 phillips, and the same length in a general flat bladed driver. You won't be sorry, and it will save you many headaches.
