My take on the whole 'decorate for the dating factor" drama;
First "Official date"; Lunch on Friday, asked her to go to the races with me on Saturday, then shooting at the range on Sunday. We didn't miss a day together for something like 6 months (She moved in with me at 2 months) and we are still together over 30 years later...
Set expectations that are realistic. Play acting what you are not is why I always say "you always marry a stranger, no matter how long you know the other person, or even if you lived together."
She didn't marry a stranger. I did, but to a lesser degree than is usual. She later got over that stage and it all worked out in the long run.
BTW our kitchen table has been covered with tools and projects with some spillover onto the floor and a temporary table for a couple of months. Not one peep or complaint. More like nagging the kids to get off their butts and help me...
I do keep relatively clear of her kitchen counters, or if I go there, its in and out fast...
She has her office space and I stay out unless she needs something done or wants me to look at something.
The house is more like a museum than traditional decorating motifs for furniture and knick-nacks (She had almost as many of these as me, you should see her camera and projector collection...). the walls are hers to do with as she pleases, for paint and art.
Point being, find someone compatible unless you want to be introducing her as "this is "C", my First Wife'. (buddy of mine actually did that for years, true story. AFAIK still married to #1...)
