I have Mac knuckle saver wrenches And a few sets impact sockets as well as snapon flank drive I like both. However I got a set of black Cornwell wrenches that are my favorite. I worked for Waukesha for years and we/I am hard on tools. I found that Mac while good stuff it was to hard to find or keep your dealer. Snapon we still have the same guy 8 years. I've had a lot of good luck with gray tools, and much better price. When I first started being a mechanic an older Co worker suggest don't buy to much from any one dealer and get at least 2 sets of most stuff one from one vendor and one set from another. That advice has paid off may times over. I later found out he had gotten loads of bonnie stuff.

I own a lot of Proto and Mac tools. Almost none of the main hardline tools are the same. Chrome sockets are all different. Extensions are different. Ratchets are different.

Some of the pliers are the same but I don't think Proto makes them.

Also, what do you mean "tool truck prices"? Have you bought any Proto tools? They're not much cheaper than Mac and some are more expensive.

Define same? Your right...not identical, but not hard to see the "Family heritage" either. Your 100% right on pricing..I've really gone more to the Proto side lately, very happy with quality.

As for something MAC has which is the top...IMHO nobody makes a better box then a Macsimizer...
I bought my KRL cause it was cheap, not because I "Wanted it"...I'd love to trade up to a Macsimizer some day.

I love my Mac Knuckle Saver Combo wrenches, most comfortable/user friendly wrench I've used in the last 22 years. About two years ago we got a Cornwell guy, I've been buying more things from him versus the other two that show up. Cornwell prices are a little better than Mac and SO.

Just a little?? It's a whole lot better

I judge one part number at a time. I don't condemn the whole entire tool brand just because one or two part numbers is made in Taiwan.

I prefer the power options on the matco boxes than the snap on. Nice being able to keep a chest on top with the option. Didn't keep me from snap on boxes because my matco dealer is a bit of a stick.

Other than that, I have zero matco tools that scream at me the way some of my snap on tools do and the ones I really love are obviously rebranded of OTC or the likes.

Edit: I lied. The one matco tool I use DAILY is my long locking flex 3/8 ratchet. I bring it home from work 1-2 times a month. JUST in case

From the looks they have it in the same position to me. So I asked.

It's not like the Snap On's have it down a few inches like SK.

Why the poo poo mood?

Isn't Matco just Danaher/Apex's tool truck nameplate? I'd assume they are mostly Armstrong, in the same way that Mac and Proto are both coming out of Stanley's factories.

Apex is no longer part of Danaher, It was sold off to Bain Capital I do believe. Matco along with Fluke are now under a new company called Fortive created by Danaher. I'm not really sure which side got the designs given the heads on Gearwrench and Matco ratchets look the same.

Even stranger is that while Danaher doesn't own Apex anymore, Matco still shares it's logo with Sata tools.

Mac rebrands channel lock pliers. Most times doesn't even change the part number just the color of the grip.

I have a mix of snap on, Mac, matco, and Cornwell and others. I too prefer the Mac knuckle saver wrenches. All my metrics wrenches and Mac and my standards are snap on. I have probably larger than average hands so the Mac just fit my hands better. But like anything else that's just personal preference. Ratchets I like both snap on and Mac. One Mac ratchet I like is a 3/8 stubby. It's a 1/4" body with a 3/8 drive. Super handy. For sockets I think they are pretty much equal. My matco 3/8 impact sockets are nice. For any plier that cuts I don't bother with tool truck brands. Klein hands down makes the best pliers with a cutting edge. And for channel lock style pliers I very much prefer knipex. (I have both Mac and c-man rebranded knipex also). Hammer for me are Vaughn's and I have a couple estwings. I do really like my snap on electronic torque wrenches too. I try and only buy truck brand tools that are made by the truck brand and not rebranded tools. And I prefer my tools be made in America. if not then europe. And alot of my stuff is bought 2nd hand. When I need a magnetic base for my dial indicator the snap on version was $200. I knew they didn't make it so I search online and found the EXACT base but in grey instead of red. I paid $18 for it! I've never had an issue warranting anything with snap on,mac or matco. I just found out we have a local Cornwell dealer (past Mac dealer had a falling out with Mac and hired on with cornwell). Both snap on dealers here are great. And my Mac guy is my cousin so that's nice. Matco guy here is pretty cool as well.
