My local Napa store has a guy working there who is probably 70 at least. I don’t know how many days a week he works. I think parts sales would be ideal for you.

If you can’t work at a somewhat comparable pace as a younger mechanic, then you are filling a shop bay that would be better filled by a younger mechanic. That’s how most shops are going to view it. Fair/not fair it doesn’t matter. Businesses aren’t a charity. You give them time and they give you money. If you don’t give them enough time, then you are taking up space.

Running your own little side shop is also a good idea. You can work at your own pace. Take on as little or as much work as you want to.

A lot of shops that do small engine work can't find anybody to work. Dad isn't paid enough but the work is pretty easy and it's close to home. Just money for the project cat. He's retiring this year in his 70s and the owner of the store will probably just stop repairs and maintenance because he can't find anyone to do it. Might see if there's a place like that nearby.
