I have a nice 2 stage compressor I had sitting ins storage until my garage was finished being built. Today when moving it to its new home the bottom drain valve broke off. It looks like the galavanized L connector rusted off inside. I thpught I could put a new bung in but its not moving. Ive tried pb blaster, everything. I dont know what to do now. Is there a special tool to take the bung out? Is it even possible?

You should be able to get the bung out. Might have to heat it up with a torch first. You can try to get the old fitting out too. Try an e-z out first, a square one if you can find one. Just dont break the ez out !!!! If not you should be able to drill out the old fitting. Go slowly a little at a time and work up to a drill size where there is hardly anything left. Then you can probably retap the threads. Probably 1/4" or 3/8" NPT threads by the looks of it. Either way it should be fixable.

The head on the bung looks weird. Is there a special socket tool for it? I like tge idea of drilling out te old stuff and running a new tap in there to straighten threads. I have a small hand torch would that get it hot enough?

That's reducer fitting in the bung. Heat it very hot quickly so as to not disturb the outer metal, whack it and unscrew it.
Thanks, what kind of sockwt shoukd I try to put on this thing?

I’ve had good experience with using a metal blade in the jigsaw, cut through one side from the inside, just be careful not to cut too deep.

Pipe extractors and or internal pipe wrenches is what we always used to take out broken off pipe fittings like this

I prefer the internal pipe wrenches if possible but they only go down to 3/8 NPT fittings. The first style works well but can be a pain to get the piece off once you get it turned out.

Some times it helps to use a diamond point chisel or a very small cape chisel to cut a groove on especially gorilla torqued fittings. It helps take the tension off the walls of the pipe fitting. I have removed several this way that others were unable to

Yeah, try a pipe wrench after squirting on some more penetrating oil.

If that doesn’t work, try and extractor like one of these from Harbor Freight. or Snap on, whatever you choose. Drill out the hole to a size that matches up with the designated drill size marked on one of these and then pound it in. Once it’s pounded in put a socket on it with a 24 inch breaker bar, I’m betting that will get it out.
I have this set. I’ve used it 5 times to extract stubborn screws and bolts.

You can't unscrew what's left with a pipe wrench?
That’s where I would go next.
Grab a pipe wrench of oh say 18 inches that still has sharp teeth, pull as hard as you can. If it’s still stuck, slip a 3 foot piece of pipe over the handle. Don’t let any body tell you it’s abuse. You already know it is.

Might help if he heated it up some with a torch.

Ok I was using a pipe wrench. Went out and tried an ez out after soaking with pb blaster. No dice. Then as I was torquing on tbe bolt I felt a muscle in my chest feel like it popped. A rolled around in pain on the floor awhile and decided to give up for today. I need to go get some propane for my torch then I will try some heat
