Is my math wrong??

Hello, this week the wife and I have been doing the floor in the breezeway that is connected to the garage..

it's 7'10" wide and 7'11" deep
so I rounded up to 8 feet x 8 feet..
so the sq. feet I thought was 64 sq. ft.
but the self leveling underlayment mortar/cement .. said on the bag, that at
1/8" think.. 2 bags should almost make it, so I figured 3 just to be safe..
three didn't do it.. it was 4...
had same issue with the title adhesive.. going by the bag.. one should've done it.. figured 2.. so far 3.. went to work before wife finished for the night so not sure if she killed the 3rd bag. or if there is still some in the bag..

is my math off..
is how far product goes that far off.
we didn't have this issue when we tiled the kitchen..

The figures are for 1/8" thick, do you have any low spots that are deeper than that ?

I don't think your math is off. I think you probably can't tell the diff betwixt 1/8 and 3/16 thick

I would guess you put it on thicker then 1/8th inch or a lot of holes deeper then 1/8

Take a look at your procedure. Are your mixing buckets scraped clean, or a bit of waste there? Do you stop and clean your tools intermittently, wasting a bit more? A bit over the edge lost in the flower bed? As said above, if your putting down 3/16" and not an 1/8" then your using 50% more material.

Math is good. At issue most times with problems like this is that 1/8" of self-leveling mix is much thinner than people anticipate. My guess is that it's going on 3/16" to 1/4" thick.

It is pretty easy to spread it thicker than you think you are spreading it. I normally buy more than I figure I will need, then I return what I didn't use. I find it is easier to return the unused product than it is to go back to the store in the middle of the job to get more of it.
