Hi guys quick question.

Is my mitre saw broke?
Symptoms -
I have been shocked a couple of time when using the saw and touch the plate. I have use a voltage tester on the plate while the saw is running and it beeps and goes red indicating volt on the plate (only when the saw is running)
When plugged into an outlet without a GFCI it ruins and continues to run
I have checked that outlet and it appears to have a open ground
When plugging into a GCFI outlet it trips the GCFI.

Thanks
Dean

Is it broke, well yeah. The question is can you fix it, won't know till you open it up. It could be as simple as a wire that rubbed through in the handle or it could be in the motor.

If the motor is running fine it'll be a simple fix more than likely. Take it apart and look for where the hot lead after the switch is worn and touching the metal case. If your getting a shock while holding the handle then touching the base I'd say the base is properly grounded and the handle / motor isn't which would be a bit odd but not having a picture doesn't help much ;)

Also check for a broken neutral too while you're in there. A continuity test will help identify a poor connection if you have one.
