ive got a drill ive had for atleast 5 years and when all the batteries died i put it up and bought a makita set...now i need a drill to use at work so i went out and bought a new battery for the drill.get up this morning and decided to use it to drill some holes in metal....well all went well till it started smoking a bit so i decided it was time to clean it up a bit....the end cap was filled with tons of dirt and so on so i took it out to spray the motor off and clean it all...well in doing so the transmission fell out of the shell....a pin was broken in it and probably was for a long time...but now i dont know how to put it all back together and since finding that broken pin i probably wont

now is it worth it to spend 40 bucks for a transmission and clean everything really well or say to hell with it:confused:

If it was smoking, the windings are probably beginning to burn out.

I wouldn't put any money into it.

ontario can
go to your local dewalt rebuiding store and buy a refirbished unit
when my 18 volt drill burnt out they wanted 100.00 to put a new motor in it
i bought a refirb unit with 2 batteries (not xrp but) and a charger for 139.00
only downfall was 1 year warrenty.
i have used it for almost 3 years now

I'd would either sell the new battery and charger, or buy another drill used or new.

Which way to go would depend to ME a lot on how much I used the drill.

I would do it.

thats if they dont charge more because i took it apart...i have every piece but who knows...i might give em a call tomorrow and find out

also i wont be using this drill all the time at work...just rarely honestly...but its nice to have a drill at work since it makes flat repairs faster

i have a xrp 14.4 three gear dewalt drill. it got left in some water once for a day and it smoked on and off for a year. still working to till this day. but in reality the money would be spent well on a new drill.

dewalt makes a good drill but the newer chucks i don't care for. just my two cents.

Burned up more drills then I can think. Have repaired a few in the past, mostly find as soon as you either change the battery or the power cord, either the chuck, gear box or motor goes south.

In my book all the battery models are consumable these days.

Go buy a new one on sale and be done with it.

Not sure exactly what you do with a drill on a tire, but I am guessing a MUCH smaller cordless would work fine and be easier to use.

OTOH my little Bosch wasn't cheap, so if I was leaving it in my box in a tire shop good chance it would be that $15 with a coupon HF cordless drill.

I'll use it for more than tires but it'll most likely stay at the shop...

I just can't see buying another drill(just bought that marital set 6 months ago if that) and it be a pos...this drill wad used at my high-school were we built sets, stages, and all kinds of stuff so its had its fair share of abuse so its not surprising the transmission is shot.

I guess ill weigh my options because honestly I'm not gonna spend a 100 bucks on a drill that doesn't have some balls behind it like this one
