Is Snap On COMBOSQ3 a re-branded Starrett combination square?

Other than something like feeler gages (for the warranty) I would never ever shop Snap-On for machinist or precision measuring. All of it is someone elses products where they merely took the MSRP and doubled it.

Hey now, I get a 50% off discount since I’m a student, so if it is a Starrett - that’s over $100 off what I’d pay anywhere else for a Starrett. Hence my question.

If your trying to support the greater cause, but new Snap-On/Starrett. If your trying to get by like the rest check out eBay.

Starrett combo squares can be had for cheap and don’t wear out (to a point). Their satin finish is nice. I think I paid $50 for what you linked to.

Ok, I just double check and I paid $102 for an 18” Starrett set like you posted .

I will say the 18” is nice. I use it or the 6” now.

$100 off? From an industrial supplier sure but not the internet.

https://www.acmetools.com/shop/tools/starrett-51557

$206 at the moment.

Starrett squares come in several variations. Cast or forged heads. Polished steel or satin chrome blades. Reversible or non reversible protractors. All these options affect price.

The set you linked to isn't what they say it is. Forged heads are smooth finish, not wrinkle and 434 series not 435. All protractor heads are cast, but come in smooth or wrinkle finish to match the square and center heads.

I always recommend people go to the Starrett website to see the options before purchasing any Starrett tool, as many come in different flavors. If you don't understand the options, call customer service. Without an exact part number you can't get what you want.

Lots of internet sellers advertise the lowest priced option. I bet that is what the set you linked to is.

The Snap-on set is forged, chrome blade. If the protractor is reversible, with the case that lists for about $325, so at half price it's a great deal.

Here is the Starrett square page, sort it down to 12" sets, 4R graduation to give you an idea of how this all works.

Just because you’re a student doesn’t mean you get 50% off of everything that has Snap On stamped on it. I’m certain there are limits to the SEP program.

$254 through Zoro with a coupon for a "high(er) end" forged head satin chrome model.

Point is 50% off Snap-On store isn't the deal someone might think it is. The OP wouldn't be saving $203, or $100, he'd save $42. Just saying.

Shop smart. Shop S-Mart.

Not true, when I was a student my rep gave me 50% on everything I ordered.... I just gave him a catalog number, he added it to my cart and I paid the price... that simple. Its a great program to take advantage of!

I was never turned down anything on SEP. I think the limit is on toolboxes, it may only be heritage boxes.

If it's a USA branded Combi square it could be any number of brands... It's just a combination square.

I'm with Skin, if someone showed up in my machine shop with Snap-On measuring tools I'd assume he couldn't cut it as a mechanic and run him off before he broke something lol

For anyone else who's looking, I contacted Starrett and Snap On. The Snap On COMBOSQ3 is a Starrett C434-12-4R and warranty is serviced by Starrett.
