Is snap on driver okay

Question about :Snapon 7.2 volt 1/4 drive screwgun
My local driver has a sale 130.00 for
-driver,2 batteries, flashlight,case and choice of
Knife set or pizza cutter/ice cream scoop.

I need input on the driver it is a NON lithium battery. Are these okay ?
I know there not as good as lithium but 130.00 bucks
For this sale seems okay ?
What do you guys think ??

A lot of the guys where I work have the non lithium and have had no issues with them. $130 sounds like a good deal. I paid $160 for my lithium with the charger, case and 2 batteries and I think another $70 for the flashlight. I do know Snap On is going away from the non lithium and coming out with new tools that use the 7.2 lithium batteries. I bought a 1/4 impact last week and I thought I saw a temp gun that uses the same batteries.

I will say this, that screw gun is a lot more useful than I thought. I keep finding new things to use it for and for its size, I am impressed with the power.

That seems like a good deal, but I really prefer lithium batteries for the length of a cycle and their longevity. Depending on your situation, maybe that's an offer you can't refuse, but if you're looking for the best of the best, I'd keep looking.

They are absolute GARBAGE. No torque whatsoever. Wouldn't even unscrew 8/32" screws from an aircraft panel. Snap On's screw guns are the only Snap On tools I would not recommend, especially since their warranties are only good for one year (I think).

If you arent in love with the promo stuff, its a great deal...I want to say the Ice Cream Scoop & Pizza cutter sell for 50.00 on eBay...so that means you'd have 80 bucks into it...IMHO good deal.

That being said...my wife LOVES her IceCream scoop...why I know they are 50 bucks is she wanted me to get another set, possibly 2 sets...one more for home and one for her dad..50 bucks a whack ended that..I got mine "Free"

+1 here! I got one in a buy a 1/4 drive set get the screw gun free promo, it was absolute garbage. Wouldn't hold a charge, 3-4 screws and it was dead. Warrantied the batteries, still no go. Traded it in on the truck for a ratchet just to get rid of it. Many guys swear by them and love them, I didn't have a good experience with it though.

This. Gutless turds, batteries don't last. 6 or 7 years ago when they first came out, I would have said they were half decent, but much better alternatives now!

i would also go with either a Milwaukee or a dewalt driver i never have been a fan of so in the driver dept to weak and the battery cost it outrageous

It's not a bad deal, but, I would see what he would do on a cts761 14.4v screw gun. I really like the new design! He's trying desperately to rid himself in older stock...

I used them for a year or so removing aircraft panels. The batteries are terrible but the size is hard to beat. I upgraded to an m12 screw gun although it is bigger and more cumbersome it's still a much better option. My milwaukee also seems to be nicer on screws even tho it is much faster it feels like I have a lot more control.

I will go with the lithium battery option. I have a couple other cordless screwguns , I was wanting one because of the size. I may try and talk the snapon guy down on a lithium set. He is a snapon area rep. Not a owner driver
So since i have bought alot and paid. He should work with me on price.

We tend to shy away from the Snap-On drivers at work. We have a 20v 1/2" impact and everyone hates it. We call it the Beat-On because you literally have to beat the battery onto the driver, beat the battery off the driver, and beat the battery onto the charger.

You can "rejuvenate" the old nicd batteries, you can't with the li-on ones without ending up with an eye patch. Saw some guy on youtube doing it by supercharging the old nicd battery with double the voltage (drill driver battery).

The li-on ones hold charge better and "last" longer though.

Uh...don't try this at home unless you know what you're doing?

I wouldn't pay that much for that voltage though. I don't know if snap on is any better torque wise but the 7 volt drivers aren't so hot for wood working. You can't really compare my generic built in shank 7.2 for $3.50 to a $100+snap on with swappable batteries but I'd assume you'd run into similar issues taking fasteners out, putting them on it's okay. I got a 19v (for less actually) that I can actually use to remove fasteners and drill through wood (haven't tried metal yet). That's the voltage you want to get for versatility.

Personally I would buy a Milwaukee M12 1/4 driver. Much more torque, longer run time, and after 4+ years of abusing it in the shop, the only thing that's happened is the grips are starting to fall off. I have one and so does one of the other techs; neither one of us would trade it for anything. They can be found on sale w/ 2 batteries and a charger for ~$100 almost any time.

My cts661 has helped me year apart more dashes and removed more trans pans than I care to think about...it's been a trooper...

That said though, I hate the electronics onto it...if it senses you are removing something that's torqued more than it can handle, it shuts off and you have to pull the battery to reset it

Otherwise, awesome tool and I do recommend it over the ni cad version...but, honestly, you'd prolly be better off with one from dewalt or Milwaukee
