Does the one you just posted also open up the same way? Or does it rotate 360 to expose the entire outlet box? I am game for either and IF it actually open a full 360, that would be most excellent !!

More than half price too . . .

here is a larger pic.
a coin will unscrew the cover per outlet.
not very fancy, but durable.

Is there a cheaper alternative to this hide away electrical outlet in the open market? :headscrat

Buying one is not a problem . . . Needing 12 of these, well . . .:wtf:

http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc...splay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053

So this “http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc...splay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053 “ is what they used all them flip up ashtray’s for…that they took out of the airplane seat arm rest :)

Just wondering, whats the application your using these pricey pop outlets for?

I am designing a work station and various other A/V work centers where a exposed outlet would detract from the decor. Also, I need some of the outlets to be covered when not in actual use.

I have a few applications where this is required and installing those plastic caps is not a long term solution when they must be removed and installed countless times.

I did a little searching on the net and found a multiple flip-up outlet (same manufacturer) or these (one of them may be more suitable). I'd love to see what you come up with. I think for your needs, H.D. may not be the place to find what you're looking for.

Brent,

You're a God send . . . The first link almost made me spit out my juice when I saw the cost! :(

While the other link was definitely more reasonable and practical for my applications.

Much thanks Sir . . .

NOPE.
Not if you're talking about that photo on the left. There may be alternatives, but none of them is cheap!

Generally an electrical supply house would be able to give a much better deal than Home Depot when it comes to specialized stuff like that. You'll still pay some decent coins though.

Could you build a recessed pocket in your workbench, mount conventional outlets in the bottom, and cover it with a flush trap door? If you sized it right and had a notch in the door, you could actually close the door with something plugged in. It wouldn't pop up, but it would hide things. Just a thought...

I am actually trying to finagle something to what you suggest. Right now it comes down to having some sort of cover that will be in place.

If I can save some cash by doing this myself then for sure. Its not like me spend cash for the sake of doing so.

Thanks for the insight!

how about weather proof outlets or weather proof outlet box..

I did consider using them a few times. But, after holding a few in my hands it was determined that the hinged door would not open and close correctly if it was recessed.

Keep in mind I only tried a few models / brands. I am sure there are others that have a different door mechanism that might fit the bill.

Trying to purchase most of this stuff locally so if I run into problems it won't be a problem to return the item.

just happy to be able to help a member out and be able to contribute, they list the part number, so you could try your local wholesalers and get them to order them in, or who knows maybe pull from the shelves

I believe the challenge for me at least is to replicate a square hole in the table / mounting area several, several times . . . :(

This will be very tedious to do, but I will have the exact outlet configurations I need for the communication room with out the hindrance of a prefab design that restricts my mounting points etc.

Many of the things I have require massive transformer blocks. I have been trying to find J box's that would fit these stupid things with out wasting the bottom outlet.

No dice so far . . . So this alternative is going to be much more labor intensive but it will not waste any dollars, and outlets in the process.

Plus it will look so much cleaner !!! :lol_hitti

Now that we have a part number, here ya are, 1.20 each, beats the 8 bucks from cableorganizer place. looking for bases but they say it fits a 1 inch square hole, any chance you could cut / punch the hole from a SS blank cover plate or other metal and use that for a mounting plate? either groved and slides in, or screwed down?
