I use a 1/4 driver extension with 1/4 sockets with a through handle , and if for any reason i need extra force that i cant do with the handle alone I use a sliding T on it. For example the nuts on the hub dial of my yota.

I was wondering why they dont make a nut driver set with a through handle attachment or even a nut like the snap on screwdrivers with the nut attachment at the handle for extra force.

Do you mean something like the Craftsman nut driver where you can plug a 1/4" drive ratchet into the back end of the handle?

I don't think that's officially a nut driver though, you have to use a socket on it. Basically it's a long 1/4" extension with a screwdriver handle on the female end.

They do, they are not as popular as they used to be but. Craftsman, Proto, Wright, Allen and a few other all still make one.

I made a couple if my own. A 14" wright extension with a Hazet handle and a 4" snap on extension with an acetate handle. Very useful.

Google Nut Driver with BOLSTER. Wiha apparently has them.

I bought a spinner handle at Advance for $3.99, because the Craftsman that I saw didn't have the square drive in the end.

Same here. I have two of the normal SnapOn ones and made my own long one out of an old beater broken screwdriver and a Craftsman extension. Great for reaching radiator hose clamps on lower hoses.

That is really nice Antique Engine! how did you make it? Drill out the handle in a drill press? any tips on making your own would be appreciated.

Old blackhawk USA put of dads old socket set. It takes all I have not to canibalize this set. But it has all of the original parts(except a 3/8 swivel that I needed and haven't put back) so I want to keep it like that.

Clamp the screwdriver in a vise and tap the handle off with a soft mallet.

Then I used my drill press to drill down through the hole in the handle all the way through. Then, turn handle over and countersink a larger hole in the end for the head of the extension to sit down recessed. I used my genuine SnapOn spinner handle as a guide as to how far down the extension head should sit in the end of the handle. It should sit slightly proud of the end. Just a little so it doesn't hurt your hand though. Then insert extension through the handle. Right before it's seated down flush I dabbed some epoxy under the head of the extension and then tapped it down flush with the handle.

Its in there hell for tight. I tried to spin the handle on the extension and I couldn't do it, and I'm a pretty big guy with strong hands. It's not going to ever move.

He is talking about a nut driver SET, not a spinner handle. I have not seen these myself, but it is an interesting concept.

I think the best method for removing an old screwdriver shaft is the clamp the old shaft in a vise and them use two prybars against the handle. You'll probably have to reclamp a couple times.

And BC was correct, these are not nut drivers, whose biggest advantage is a hollow shaft.

Oops. In that case, no I don't think anyone has or does produce a set like that, it would really add to the cost of the set and actually be detrimental in some cases. As was mentioned above an alternative is bolstered nut drivers, Wiha makes a set.

I have been using the handled drivers for years with female end. But I have never seen a nut driver with a female 1/4 drive end

However mac does offer some nice locking handled drivers with female ends that I use all the time for changing spark plugs probably the closest to what u r looking for

Look at Witte or Matco nut drivers. They have hollow shaft bodies and have a horizontal hole in the handle for cheater bar use. I have several and they have yet to let me down

3baygarage nailed it. though those dont have the 1/4 end . But that is probably low demand. I use this currently but have been looking for a new nut driver set and was hoping that was a feature I could find. The bolster (didnt know that word) looks like it may work though.

the long snap on one antique engine made is nice. I think I made up my mind and instead of looking for a set of drivers I am going to make a handle on a locking extension. I liked the idea in my head especially since Id like a metric nut driver set.

I'm not sure if this is what the OP is looking for, but I will comment that this is an absolute top notch quality set. This manufacturer pays attention to every last detail with their tools and I will go out on a limb and say these are second to no other brand I have seen. Some people may not prefer the features they have on these, but I really like them.... if you see a deal on these, buy them up. :rocker:

Lowes sells a set of Kobalt nut drivers with a square drive on the end to attach a ratchet/T-bar/etc... Only thing is they're not 6 point hex on the nut end, they're a "universal" spline so each driver fits a metric and SAE size. I think there are 5 or 6 drivers in the set, never seen them as open stock.

Because you're supposed to use a socket not a nutdriver on that.

They probably don't make them because nut drivers aren't really popular nowadays. The craftsman spinner has been mentioned, it's basically an extension with a handle, you could just use an extension with a grip (either built in or added) on it in the same capacity. If these issues keep coming up try getting a breaker bar in 1/4" or going up to 3/8 or even 1/2, no big deal.
