Thank you bad idea, unfortunately I do not have any plans drawn up. I have some rafter patterns and a story pole for the front wall. Here is a few pics of one I have in the back yard. Sorry about the repost of these.

Nice work. Does anyone have a good source for some idiot proof plans to build a quality shed? Not to hijack the OP's thread because I think this also answers his question. I myself am fairly skilled in metal fab (do it for a living) but have trouble with carpentry due to ignorance. I find I can do damn near anything with a decent set of instructions. I found a ton of links for plans for sale but I question the quality of them w/o being able to preview them first.

I would also like to build mine to be hauled to the next house in about 10 years. That line may be a bit of a hijack.

Black and decker contemporary sheds isbn 10: 1-58923-335-2 grabbed a copy a few years ago for lean to plan. Rock solid shed. Shed has been flipped on its side and moved to 3 different houses now. Hauled on open trailer over 1200 miles @ 70 mph.

Book teaches basics & there's an additional salt box plan on projectplans.com design# 002d-4500.

OK, here is a stupid question of the day. Is it typical to go 24" on center for a shed? Glider that is a very nice looking "Salt Box" I just might have to copy.

The 24" oc would be based on the rating of material used. Copy away and pm if I could help.

glider, would you mind sharing a bit of direction on the construction of this shed? I can see from the photos the outside dimensions. But I am wondering about the wall height? Also curious about the rafters, how do you build the "SaltBox" style roof without ceiling joists? I see a bit of an overhang on the front, but can not figure out how to build that without joists.

The rear of the roof looks straight forward enough, simple rafters and a ridge.

You're far enough inland that you shouldn't have to worry. I was on the front porch in Winter Springs when Charlie came through in 2004. Power was out for 3 days, but very little damage to the house.

I'm on Merritt Island. Only thing between us and the ocean is the barrier island of Cape Canaveral & Cocoa Beach. Barely a speed bump for a hurricane!

We have another river between us and the mainland. We'll ride out a Cat I or II, maybe a III depending on the path, but IV or V, we're rolling.

Hi guys. I am finally able to contribute. I am in the process of building a 10x14. I saw a manufacturer at the Home Show a few months ago with this style. For some reason this shed rang my bell and is serving as inspiration for my build.

They use 1x8 T&G pine Barn siding. The floors are 2x8 PT that are also tongue and groove. There are double doors on the side. I am not doing the dormer b/c I don't know how, and moving the double doors to the front. I am not doing the man door either. One entrance is enough. I will be doing the transom windows in the doors and a couple of plexiglass skylights on the back.
I have 2 questions. Are there good alternatives to the barn siding? I love the look but think the maintenance would be a pain. I am not a fan of t1-11. It changes the look of the barn. I could use vinyl siding which would look ok, or even hardi plank. They all would be a different look
second question , I see a lot of folks make rafters without a ridge beam. What makes a ridge beam necessary?

You can see in this picture they also use another 2x6 with a gusset plate rather than using a birds mouth cut. Why is that? Extra headroom ?

I'm so lost on how to build the rafters, does anyone have a good suggestion? Everything on YouTube/ google is with a ridge beam. Not sure why one vs. the other.
You may be wondering why dont I just buy the damn thing if I like it so much.... well the nearly 6k price tag was a bit steep for me... For now it's just the model in my head.mi don't need the exact photocopy just something that takes styling cues from it.

You can put on whatever siding you want. There is some good manufactured wood product siding out there like LP's SmartSide that will work well for your project.

Why not buy rafter repair plates at Lowe's or HD and build your rafters that way? With it only being 10' wide you will be good to go.

BTW, that looks like something from Weavers. Who is the shed company?

Only oner I've built is my woodshed over at my holiday home in France. Mini pole barn, single pitch roof with corrugated cement sheet with roman tiles over to match the house roof, recycled old window from the house and vertical planking. Obviously as its a woodshed ventilation is more important than being totally waterproof so theres no lining under the planking and the front is half open.

Ahh, OK, then yes, head on out. I thought you were in Central FL based on your profile (ie: Orlando and the like).

Hopefully imitation is the highest form flattery!! It's a Weaver shed. I am still up I'm the air on siding. Is LP smart siding improved since their lawsuit a number of years ago? I looked at the mending plates and they said not for trusses. Do truss manufacturer's use something different?

Not the best shot but this is my 8x10 shed with hardiboard siding to match my house I built a few years ago.
