I'm sure you could. My garage door opener has a built in light with a timer. I would guess that you could tap into that switch to trigger your other lights to turn off and on. I'm no electrician, so hopefully one of the other guys will chime in on this. Now you've got me thinking about the same thing for my garage.

You can control lights wirelessy with their switches, if you have an alarm system and have a contact on your garage door you may be able to control it so that when ever the door opens the light comes on, that depends on the brand of the alarm panel though. For example at the back door of my house the light comes on when ever the door is opened and it stays on for a minute then shuts its self off. Also on my detached garage about 50 ft away from the house I can turn on and off an outdoor light from inside the house using a remote control.

X10 definitely opens up all sorts of possibilities. Many garage door openers have an outlet on them to connect to other lights. It would just be a matter of tying into that system and would depend on the opener and whether the wiring is accessible.
I did this in my last garage (building new garage now). I removed the 15 Watt lightbulb from my garage door opener and substituted a screw in plug receptacle from the hardware store. Into the plug, I stuck an old calculator power supply, you know with the tranformer on the wall plug and a 9 Volt banana plug on the other end. I stuffed all that into the cheesy plastic housing where the 15 Watt lightbulb lived. So, when you opened the garage door, you got a 9 Volt DC signal on the wire for the duration of the opener's timer.
I took that DC signal to a solid state relay that I liberated from...well...found laying around:

This turned on about 4 strips of tube lights on the garage ceiling. I paralleled the ceiling lights with the wall switch too.
