is there any hope for this snap on toolbox?

i can't say where its from or who has it but it was in a shop fire over this summer.

this is a picture a week ago of it. i wonder if they are gonna keep it or throw it away? maybe they are holding onto it for insurance reasons

i can tell you first hand it's junk. my house burnt down a few years back and my boxes were worthless after the fire.

That brings back some memories. The picture is small but it looks like it held up well. I bet with a lot of hard work it cold be made to look decent

When the shop I worked at years ago burned down my boxes (550/555 and sides) collasped in on themselves. hardly anything was salvagable. You would think that more hard tools would survive better than they do. I had like one screwdriver handle with 48 blades, lol

i saw one of the sides is still partially red so its safe to say it wasn't totally engulfed in flames

It won't be as strong as it was, but if the drawers open it might be worth it.

If thats the case it may be worth a try. If the inside of the drawers still have paint it may be golden

Would be a fun project, but alot of work. Curious to see how much something like that would cost to restore.

I helped a guy re-do a krl7003 a few years back. It had to have all the slides replaced and the drawers were sand blasted. casters as well were replaced. it still works today. It didnt get THAT hot though.

It looks awesome like that. Just replace the slides and get a brand new stainless top for it and it would be killer. Kind of a 'rat rod' sort of deal.

^yea... if the structure is sound and the drawers work well, just clearcoat it w/ matte and run it as-is. hopefully it doesn't stink.

Unless you could get it for free I wouldn't think it'd be worth the trouble and money to fix it.

If it is like the ones I have seen come out of fires, run away, run away!

Take sheet metal, get it very hot, then hit it with a mist of water; there won't be a straight panel left anywhere.

no warranty. the guy bought one set and it fixed the sagging problem. then he went drawer by drawer. cleaned sand blasted painted still using it 5 years later. but like I had said it didnt look as bad as that picture up top.

That box would be awesome if you could get it in working order and left it looking like that.

it appears they have already replaced that toolbox so they must be hanging onto it for somthing.

a new slide kit is like $250?

sandblast it top to bottom and see whats left. weld any loosened spot welds,...

thinking out of my head. i should really see what he is gonna do with it.

It would be interesting to see what i could do with it in my beadblast cabinet then powdercoat the drawers and box again i do this on the side and have brought back different items that were damaged like this I would make it a custom color not the norm snap on red. Would love to see if ii could do it.

Looks like "yard art" to me. Park it in your back yard, place some rocks around it. Plant some flowers in one of the drawers. Etc.

Unless you could get it for free I wouldn't think it'd be worth the trouble and money to fix it.

X2, Unless you REALLY REALLY needed a resto project I think that one would be scrap metal. Even if you get the rust off I bet the integrity of the metal would be damaged. If you do get it, I'd vote on painting it with bedliner to hide some of the flaws that are bound to be there.
