I know i claimed i checked every socket in my 302 pc. craftsman set to make sure i had every socket, well, last night i was workin on something, was using a 9/16" deep 3/8" drive socket, then went to grab the 9/16" shallow 3/8" drive and it didn't fit, it was a 5/8" checked the 5/8" slot, it was also a 5/8". I now have the 12 pt. 9/16" 3/8" drive socket on my socket tray, but i'm still mad. I don't want to go buy the 6 pt. one from sears because that's $5 and its lazer etched unlike the rest of my set. I doubt sears would do anything about it, i dont' really have a way to prove anything. Any suggestions?

Take it back and show them. I'd be very surprised if the manager didn't give you a new socket, or a new set.

i've had the set for 3 weeks, replcaed a ratchet already because i fudged it up, and engraved my initials into every socket. The biggest standard screwdriver is dirtier than ****, and the 3/8" drive ratchet has a burn hole in it from a battery and its covered in grease

I don't think they will hassle you. You are exchanging a different size and have a receipt within 30 days. It's not like you bought the set 2 years ago.

Take the extra socket to your local sears, along with your packing slip. They should exchange it without any hassle. They did in my case, anyway. I bought the Craftsman 43 Piece 12 Point wrench set:

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00944048000P?prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1

They sent me two 1/4" wrenches instead of a 1/4" and a 5/16". I took the extra wrench and the receipt to my local sears, explained what happened, and they gave me a 5/16" no questions asked.

gee, a little rough on the tools.....

just take it to the store and pick out the new one. it's tougher to "exchange" a tool than warranty one. I warrantied a wrench and picked the wrong size off the peg. When I took it back to get the correct one, they treated it as a non-receipt return and ended up paying me a dollar (price difference). It was the biggest pita. Next time, I'm not even bothering...

After your "surrounded by tools" thread I was thinking it was time you moved on from small engine repair to something more advanced. - Now I'm not so sure......:)

It should be no hassle at all, just take the one socket back and tell them what happened. We have both styles of sockets at our local sears. If not call sears and they will drop ship you the one you need. Just tell them the set was missing that socket. It will go much easier than telling them they sent the wrong size. I know thats a little deceptive but it's not like you are trying to something for nothing.

Yea its a shame I think that craftsman quality controle is slipping but lucky most of the time I have had to deal with them there customer service is next to none. One time I bought a set and the next week it went on sale. I couldent find the recipt but I had the giftcard that still had a small ammount of money on it that I used to purchess the set with. they took probably close to half an hour trying to do something for me. They eventualy found my sale and actualy gave me a gift card for the difference and I went and spent it that afternoon. my friend also had a set that had douplicates and missing sockets. He just took them back no questions asked really as far as I know. Just take in your douplicate sockets and at the verry worse they give you credit for the wrong socket and you just pay 50 cents for the correct socket

GOOD LUCK

I bought a set about five years ago at the Appleton Sears and had the same issue. Took my receipt and socket in and was out the door in a couple minutes. I haven't exchange anything there in a while but they used to be really good.

We used to do exchanges and additions/subtractions on big sets all the time; it is common for the larger sets to not have everything, have incorrect items or have duplicates in them. Take your receipt, tool set contents slip and they should be able to handle it; if not talk to a manager and if no love... contact Sears Customer Relations Hotline: 1-800-549-4505.

Ahhhh. Disconnect the Negative first next time. Then you can bump the frame and everything and it won't matter.....

But yeah, you're beating the hell out of those poor tools pretty quick!

On the packing slip that lists the contents of the set is a 1-800 number call it and they should send you the missing socket. The number is for Danaher not Sears.

It's Sears. They got 301 pieces correct. I'd be ecstatic.

Take it back. You paid for something you didn't get. I think you'll be alright.

Worked out great. I brought the box, the list of sockets, and the reciept along with the 2- 3/8" drive 6 pt. 5/8" sockets in and i told him my story in under 20 seconds, went and grabbed a new 9/16" and i was good to go. Only problem is, all my other sockets aren't laser etched and all the individual ones at sears are lazer etched. Oh well, i guess i'll live
