Is there code for cable hookup?

I switched to cable internet about a year ago. This spring into summer my modem has been hit twice with power spikes when storms roll through. The first time also taking out the router in my shop. This time the network outs on the modem fried before it went that far I guess. Here is a pic of the cable that the internet company hooked up. And the ground from the block goes just left of the blue glue on that vertical conduit. See it sort of haphazardly hooked there! So......is this why my stuff is getting spiked?

your pictures dont show where the cable ground wire connects to.

What does it terminate too?

I would install one of these. I have one. Though we rarely get lightening out here. better to be safe than sorry.

also, i would call the cable company have them come out and clean up the grounding and file a claim with them if its not properly grounded( i cant tell). There could also be an issue with the grounding on the pole.

Have any of your neighbors had this issue?

personally, I wouldn't "coil" the excess cable. If I had excess, I would dress it along the vertical pipe in a "S" fashion.
As far as grounding, don't know / can't tell if the attachment point is grounded. It may have the screw to whatever, by does whatever have a solid ground also?

If power surges from lightening is killing low voltage parts it's probably a grounding AND BONDING problem. Most buildings have multiple grounds. Water pipe that goes into the ground is a form of ground. Electric systems have a ground. You may even have a ground rod. All three are separate grounds. Tie them together to create ONE BONDED ground. Run a ground wire from water pipe to electrical ground & to a ground rod (add one if necessary). That will equalize your ground so that all circuits have the same ground potential.

You guys see the blue glue on the pvc conduit in that right hand pic? Just left of the glue is the ground for the cable block. Just a u shape sitting on the 8ga ground from the main panel.
