My neighbor gave me this. Also has a Columbian wood vise on it-missing handle.

The top/back piece is C-Man, but I can't seem to find any old C-Man benches like this on the web. Kinda looks like a Lyon, but not exactly, I think???:dunno:

Also, the wood top seems to be built like a solid core door, but is not a door- no hinges or holes for handle. Is this the way they were built? Or is it an old door that was never cut?

Any idea on year as well?

The Lyons that I see have the stamped flat style legs, where this one has more of a stamped angle (similar to angle iron shape).

Anyone on here have an old C-man?

I agree, the Lyons usually have stamped flat legs, that looks like an old door blank before it gets cut for left/right opening.

The frame is Craftsman, I gave an identical one of those (Right down to the drawers) to a freind. I'd guess Lyon, Equipto or one of those types made it for Sears. The top could be a door blank or it could be the supplied top. Mine looked tee same but had a Craftsman decal on the edge. I'd guess the bench MFG, would contract the tops out to a door manufacturer, it makes sense...

Outlaw. Thanks! I had a feeling I'd get a good answer from you.

Any idea on the year? The C-Man logo pic shows 1950-1964. So I guess one of those 15 years, huh?...Kinda answered my own question there. :lol_hitti

Yep you did. you can dig through the Rose Antiques Craftsman catalogs for the era, and see where it shows. But its possible it covered the entire date range. (Sorry, too swamped to do it myself these days....)

Right on! Don't be sorry my man. I remember now seeing Rose-*** on GJ...but couldn't recall it. I'll dig and share what I find. Thanks!

EDIT: Looks like a 1953. Bench was $24.50 and drawers were an accessory for $2.95 each. The top is "Pressed and bonded wood top-harder than Maple!"

Super cool. Thanks again Outlaw!

Could be newer than that, as Sears was still listing that bench in the catalogs as late as 1970.

Price in 1966 was $26.99 for the bench and $4.99 each for the drawers.

Price in 1970 was $29.99 for the bench and $5.49 each for the drawers, as the dreaded inflation was beginning to kick in.

Many of the workbench kits came with particle board tops. I bought two and both were this way. I still have both of the benches (now with different tops) Top looks like a door blank, I doubt it was part of the original bench.
