Is this a good deal ??

I have been watching for a good deal on a used air compressor and saw this. Would this be a good pump to build and 80 gal home compressor with. I want to sand blast so I want some CFM's

Two Stage Air Compressor Pump, 5.0 HP, Free Air Flow @ 175 PSI 13.7 CFM, Speed 1600 RPM asking $600. Supposedly as new but in storage for 15 years.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Do not buy any USED or other wise not brand new compressor without opening the inspection plugs on the tank first and looking in. I wasted some money learning that lesson. If they won't let you pull them out, don't buy it.

What is the brand/model?

For that kind of money you can buy an industrial quality brand compressor in very good shape used.

You noted that this compressor runs at 1600 rpm. This is way faster than most industrial compressors run, which may lead to reduced life. Also, higher rpm can mean more noise.

Make sure it's a brand you can still get parts for. If its been sitting as long as they say, the cylinders will need lube on the rings before the compressor can be run without danage to itself. The oil should also be changed before use, as it may have collected water.

13.7 cfm is right at the bare min air supply you need for sandblasting. I have a 5HP Energair rated at 17.5 cfm at 160 psi and I would like more air when I run my cabinet. My compressor is a late 1980s model. I bought it in new condition for $550 including a mag starter.

Personally I think I would keep looking. Do you already have a motor, tank and pressure controls? That pump is not that great. It is a very high RPM unit. It looks like the seller runs a resale shop or something. Yea, grainger has a retail of xxyy, but that pump.... eh. I just think you could do better if you waited. My 2¢
