Yeah, it's been that long since I did drywall before. I did it once, and I swore I'd never do it again. :lol_hitti

I've got a 30x40x14' shop. With two big doors on the front. I'm getting drywall on the walls.

Got a quote for $1768 for ready for paint 1/2" drywall.

Good, high, pretty reasonable? From what I've heard this guy's very good at his job. I've got other quotes coming, but I don't know what's to be expected in terms of reasonable.

Any advice?

is that with him providing the sheetrock? if so that sounds real reasonable to me. I don't mind hanging it, it's the finish work I can't stand so I usually hang it and pay to have it finished, but for that price I wouldn't touch it.

That seems pretty good to me. By my math if you're doing the ceiling and a bit on some front posts you are close to 3,000 sf. I paid a little under $1 a sf a couple of months ago for 3600 sf. A few hundred sf of that was interior patch and hand texture matching but the bulk of it was a simple box (the garage with no obstructions and a simple "orange peel" spray on texture. Also mine was 5/8" instead of 1/2".

No ceiling. The ceiling will not be drywalled. I'm doing lightweight steel. So this is WALL only.

Him providing the sheetrock. All I do is cut him a check for $1768 and he does the rest.

Most guys bid liner feet or by the sheet
How many sheets is the shop

On the low end just for labor
4$ a sheet to hang it an
5$ a sheet for taping

On the high end
6.50$ a sheet to hang it
7.00$ a sheet for taping an
Texture??
If they are spraying orange peel 3$ a sheet
If they are spraying knockdown 5$ a sheet

This is just labor no materials

That's what I use to charge when sheet rock was my full time job

Long time reader, first time poster....

I just paid to have my drywall hung, taped and mudded. My original plan was to hang it myself then pay to have it taped, mudded and sanded. When I got the quote the drywall guy he told me straight up that I could hang it myself but since I didn't do it professionally, the cost would be more since it would be more work for him. In the end, it wasn't cost effective for me to hang it. I purchased all the material and paid $800 for his crew to hang, mud, tape and sand 41 sheets of 12' drywall (20 54"x12'x1/2 and 21 4'x12'x1/2). In total, it was just under 2000sf of drywall which included my ceiling (My garage is 28X36 with 11' ceilings (9' stud wall on top of 2' poured foundation)). The install crew knocked out the install in just over 5hrs; this would have easily taken me and a few friends a full weekend (plus) to knock out. The crew did a great and it was money very well spent, in total it was just over $1400.

Since my install, I've learned $25-$30 is an average rate for finished drywall which includes materials. Of note, this price is for either 8' or 12' drywall so it's more cost effective to go with 12' sheets if doing a large area.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the info guys. I'm waiting on another quote from a guy today. If he doesn't get me a quote today I'm probably going to go with this guy.

It seems a tad bit high, but I'm expecting good work from him, and am going to emphasize that if I agree with him.
