Hi I'm looking at this vise its a Wilton #645 with 5" jaws and opens to 7-1/2" with 3-1/2" throat. I searched the model number but didn't find it. The guy said its made in the US. He said it weighs about 40 lbs . opinions please

I could be wrong but I think it is the modern version of the older 640 series. I have one I refurbished recently and will be selling. It is the 643.5, or 3.5 inch wide jaw model. Mine was made in the late 60s or early 70s. It was meant for the home user.

I've got that vise on my bench, sans swivel base. It's a "newer" 645 with the Wilton sticker instead of the name cast in. Picked it up at a local junkyard for $15.00 and it has been serving reliably ever since.

If you can pick that up for $40-$50, go for it. I you find something a little heavier later, you can easily flip that one and get your money back.
