Welcome to big industry.
And people wonder why thing cost so much.
I don't think that's a fair statement...big industry = cheaper costs. Wonder how much it would cost you to open up a small paper mill and only make a couple reams of paper a day, or a tabletop refinery that refines a single BBL of crude a day. Pretty sure it would be 100x the costs of what "big industry" can do. Some things just cant be done small scale. Economies of scale.
Big industry = Big Tools used on Big Machines where output is measured in tons per hour/minute...everything has a cost. And clearly costs are low..paper for example is pretty much disposable.
Smallest paper machine I've ever seen and heard about is the one at UMaine..even then, take a look...wouldn't fit in your garage:

That's TINY..13" Trim, 160FPM and 1lb per min... I worked on a machine with a 284" trim...not hard to see how & where huge sockets are a normal everyday item.
