Saw this on CL and the owner said it was his father in law's and he would get back to me Friday. Is this a prentiss? Description says 18" long and 8" high. This is the only pic in their ad.

There should be markings on it. It could be a Athol by Starret. The bolt looking think on top allows the rear jaw to move. That's how mine works.

When I enlarge the pic it gets too grainy, from what I can see it has a (Parker) collar at the front. Also quite fuzzy but pretty sure those are Parker jaws.

Also, whatever brand it is, it is probably 4" or less. It is on a swivel base with no lock down (or hole for missing lock down). Anything 5" or bigger usually has a lock down on both sides.

I've only see the bolt on top on Prentiss vises, but I am no expert on this subject at all. I've been looking for a machinist vise for a while, they have it listed for $25. Don't care the brand as long as its USA.

I sent another email and told the guy I want to buy it, so hopefully I can get it today or tomorrow. I'll report back and get some better pics when its in my garage.
