Machinist boxes are quite often wooden. Yes I believe that is the case of the one you posted.
I can't speak for your box, but Sears occasionally sold wood machinist boxes in the 90s, which leads me to believe that a box with a badge from the 70s/80s might be legit. Sears would offer up all kinds of special items over the years - especially around Christmas time - that may or may not have been repeated in ensuing years. Wood machinist boxes were among those items.

Seems odd to me that the corner guards, drawer pulls and finger pull on the front cover are dark finished. Usually they are nickel plated or in some cases polished brass. Also the center panel on the front cover is something other than finished wood. There are now a number if imported wood machinists' boxes being sold by a number of stores for cheap money. Gerstner even sells an offshore-made line for those who do not want to pay for the real thing. My guess is Asian.
