I ordered a MAC door panel tool from ebay, and this is what they sent me.. When comparing it to my real MAC screwdriver, it just doesn't seem to be the same quality.

It looks like a fake..........the handle is smaller and cheesy.....plus I've never seen a Mac logo like that.......and WTF is the UTI ******** on the handle? It should have a part number on it somewhere like the screwdriver.

This finish on the shaft is questionable to me. I claim bogus...

Has anybody here bought one of those off the Mac truck to compare..?

Send a pic to Mac tools directly...interesting to see what they have to say.

Font for the model # doesnt look like anything I've ever seen, and same for the logo style.

I bet its just NOS. Maybe the UTI is for Universal Technical Institute? I know Snap on is the current sponsor for the tech school but maybe it was mac in the past?

Odd, When I questioned the authenticity of the item, the seller on Ebay assured me it was real, yet promptly refunded my money and told me to keep it.

Well...at least your not out the money. He just didn't want to get turned in for selling bogus tools.

I dont know. I think it still may be real. He may have not really known and did not want to deal with it. I did a google search and found a couple just like it. Like I said they are taiwan tools badged for mac. Matco has one that looks the same. That tool is available under many different names. It looks like VIM tools is the OEM. So at the very least you have one of those. I still think its real. The newer version has the same part number. If he sells a lot of stuff on ebay and this tool was not that expensive it would be better for him to refund you and keep you happy.

Hahahahahahaha.

UTI connection?. Uh--no.

Mac trim tools are sold with the part numbers UT1, UT2, UT3, etc.

Current run in the MAC soft handles is UT3V, for the "v" notch end, UT4U for the "u" notch end etc.

I'm guessing it is pretty old NOS or used and old but still a real MAC trim tool in my eyes.

Don't like it, just buy the new ones from your MAC dealer or online. They are awesome tools when you need them.

How do I know? I own the whole freakin' set. UT1 thru UT4.

i had the same thing happen when i questioned the authenticity of an Otterbox I bought. I had mentioned that I would inform otterbox and ebay in my email, and he just refunded it without question.

I think they know they are fakes, and when called out, they do that. if they get something for $2 and sell it for $20, the loss is more than covered by the unsuspecting.

Mac didn't make that tool, they just rebadge. I have that tool and it is identical to my buddy corrnwell set. My kit came right off the truck.

Or they value their feedback more than a trivial sum of money at the risk of some numpty who doesn't know what they're talking about leaving negative feedback. Not saying this is you or there aren't fakes on ebay but certainly in the OPs case that seems to be what happened. Personally i'd reverse his refund as it is a MAC trim tool.

Ok.......maybe I was wrong...it hasn't been the first time. It just looks suspect to me. I stand corrected. :)

they may be rebadged tools, but even those use the handles to the spec of the manufacturer representing, i have several red handled mac tools, all handles on mine look exactly like the one op origionally had... same lettering, same edges of the handle... more rounded at each of the 4 corners and at the end....
