Is this a Saylor Beall 705 or a clone?

I have a chance to pickup another pump. If it is a Saylor Beall, I would be interested, but I cannot tell for sure. On the crankcase the numbers "4048 R" which is a Saylor PN for the correct crankcase. It looks like a SB. The one thing throwing me off is at the top of the inter cooler there are two bolts/ports. My other real 705 pump does not have these, therefore it make me think possibly a clone. Not sure how to tell...thoughts from the experts? Possibly...Kams you out there...thanks for any help in advance.

No my other does not have "Made in USA", the one I currently own ( I sent pics to Saylor Beall they confirmed it is legit) including most I see on here do not have the "made in USA" unless they are very new.

My current does have SAE fasteners, not sure yet if the possible new one does.

Offhand I would say it's the real thing. Those openings on the intercooler are unusual. It is possible the intercooler itself is a replacement and the rest of the unit is original. Like you said, Kams would be the best opinion.

I think all of the castings are being done in China and SB buys it from them.

Some of the older ones have their brand and USA COO casting like in photo below.

I think the one in your picture is legit, but an earlier version of the 705 before they started casting the Saylor-Beall name and made in USA on the crankcase. My guess is that they started doing that just after the Chinese knock-offs began to surface about.

First of all, to call "made in USA" does NOT required that all components are to be made in the USA.

Second of all, SB only claim to machine their components, no casting, unless I read it wrong. There's nothing wrong w/ outsourcing a few components, even casting the body. I believe the casting is just a small part of whole pump design. The machining and selecting the detail components are what count, the high CFM output.
You should look at their web site then. It says the source of components is the USA. Why do you say differently?

Does this statement convince you?

Got this directly off Smitty’s website

From the Made in USA Saylor Beall web site.

"All our pumps and compressors are built with American Pride in our manufacturing plant in St. Johns, Michigan. Our use of American cast iron and parts in our compressors gives us the superior quality we are known for"

You must have Saylor Beall confused with some Chinese import knockoff like Eaton compressors.

Well I am definately a hug fan of the Saylor Beall, since I got my first one a few months back I have been looking for more, seems as most don't know how great they are....which is why I went and looked at this compressor yesterday, they guy had no info on it just the pics, mainly I just wanted the pump so I can have another 705 to rebuild fresh while the one is chugging away for me :)....Anyways it looks to be a real SB. Still has the serial tag on it actually, does anyone know how SB codes their SN's so I can figure out the age of this one? If not no biggie, I plan on giving SB a call later, their tech is extremely helpfull!

Also, in case anyone is interested the guy also have a Quincy 325 compressor for $300.

Hey, if SB claim that their casting are conducted in USA, that's great. I was just going w/ what I know; there's no harm there and I never said anything bad about it.
