I work with a group out of Rye, but have yet to be able to visit there. My wife and I seem to watch a lot of UK sourced tellie shows and I have been all over England from having a former business partnership with a group up in Cambridge and good friends in Manchester, but she spent decades raising kids while I did the globe trotting thing, so she is REALLY anxious to travel around the SE...or anywhere else in UK for that matter.

Will definitely let you know when we do come. Looking forward to meeting you in person.

I‘m in the middle of the county, so Rye is a fair journey (East Sussex has no motorways) but I know it.

It’s a very old town, relatively unchanged for hundreds of years. Used to be a port, but some distance from the sea now.

West of Rye you have rural East Sussex, to the North you are in Kent, and to the South East you have Romney Marsh. Flat wetlands, historically a centre for smuggling, today better known for it’s sheep!

At the southern tip of the marsh is Dungeness, the only desert in the U.K. (classed as such due to lack of vegetation). It’s a weird place with acres of nothing and isolated huts. Low budget Sci Fi tends to get filmed there.

There is a very high class miniature railway on the marsh though. Built by an eccentric millionaire in the 1920’s, he ordered 1/3 size versions of what were then modern locomotives. Worth seeing.

I am in the middle of NA, so when I go to a job in Florida or Alaska, it is 3 legal driving DAYS to get there (thus, why we tend to have and use light a/c for business here - but these days I am dragging 20 tonnes of equipment behind me, wouldn't fit into my old 3NM Expediter. Gosh, I miss going deaf between a pair of Pratts.

I find most places I go interesting, but nothing beats having someone local who knows the ins and outs (and stories) to really get maximum value from a visit. Your pics REALLY got my wife and I looking forward to the end of this covid nonsense so we can resume travel.

Taps are marked P&W Co for Pratt and Whitney. They're part of a tap and die set that's in a ~1'x3' wooden box. I inherited it from my dad but never asked him where he got it from. He was in the Air Force in WWII but not involved with aircraft- he was on a tug boat I also have another 1/2-12 that's a Greenfield that I didn't include
