Is this a Wilton?

I'm 99% sure this is a vintage Wilton, but before I make an offer too add it to the collection, I'd like to be certain.

I can't speak for the brand, but it looks like a solid vise regardless.
I have an old Columbian and, I don't treat it gently.

Almost any old, heavy American vise will serve you well.

Why would you say no?

To me it looks like a Wilton (maybe Columian Wilton?) that didn't have the Wilton name cast into it. Maybe made like that for a vendor like Sears?

I'd say yes it is, one of their mechanics series. It might be in OK shape under all that rust. If it actually moved and you needed a vise 1/3 of that would be more realistic IMHO.

I'm fairly sure it's a Wilton 645 from roughly 30-40 years ago. When all cleaned up and painted, they sell for well over $100 on fleabay. As it sits, I wouldn't go more than $40.

I have seen those. May be a cheep wilton or columba...more likely wilton. Pretty junky. I would not spend more than $20 for it. The Wilton units like that are no better than any average quality homeowner unit from 40 years ago. I think I may even have one of those in my pile of vises.

Thats not a 6 1/2" vise. Vises are measured by the width of the jaws not how far they open. That looks more like a 3"-4" vise.
I would not pay anywhere near $90 for that especially considering its condition.

It looks like "645" is cast on the side, which makes it a 5" jaw width.

I've noticed that vise for sale also, but I'm on the opposite side of the metroplex. Unfortunately, vises in the dallas/fort Worth area are made of gold (or so the owners think). It seems Every rusty old vise on Craigslist is $5+ a pound.

Realizing that, I agree about the price.

Wilton mechanic's vises were made by Columbian.
IMHO: It doesn't have the desirability as the American made Bullets. Seeing its condition, I wouldn't give more than 35$, assuming that it's not broken.
