Can anyone help me ID this vise? It smells like a wilton so it must be right??? I know its a 6" jaw, is supposed to have pipe jaws that are replaceable (but currently missing) The square spot for what looks to be a wilton sticker is throwing me off. Wasnt Wilton cast into the side of the vise?? Thanks for any help!

Thanks Pipe Hack! I am seriously considering purchasing this for the house. I already have one really nice 4" wilton. This is a 6" and a lot more used. I would probably need new jaw inserts, they look pretty worn. This is coming my way with an asking price of $50. It will feel really special if I can go home for $35.

Looks similar to a Wilton but I don't think it is. I know older Wilton's do have Wilton cast into the the side. I'm not sure about newer ones but I know the newer versions are not red. Additionally, if you look at the anvil area it is different than a Wilton as well as the side casting. I'd pass it's probably chinese.

Didn't Wilton cross brand for a couple other companies? That might be why there is no "Wilton" cast on the side.

yes they did.....snap on sells wilton's that don't have wilton cast into it. IIRC they had a foil sticker that said snap on. it it isn't a wilton it's a very good copy and i'll bet that it is a wilton:thumbup:

I am looking at it on Tuesday. Has anyone ever ripped out an entire house full of carpet?? It *****. I did that today and getting installed tomorrow. I would have looked/bought it already if it werent for that ...

It shure looks like a wilton or re-badged Snap-on! I bought a real clean one like that for $165.00, it was a re-badged Snapper, I sold it for more than I paid for it! For $35.00 you cannot go wrong even if it is a copy, clean it up and paint it, tripple or more for your $$:bounce:

Look what followed me home. I think this one is going to need a clean up and paint job.
I wire wheeled in a cordless drill and put a few swirl scratches in on the side of the jaws and the anvil. They are pretty light and will sand out.

There is a little slop in the jaws meaning you can open the vise and then move the outer jaw back and forth a little bit. I dont know if that part can be corrected. It closes tight which is most important!!!

The date is either 94 or 9 84
If you look close there is a faint 8 outline before the 4. Not sure on that one.

Here is the mostly finished product. Green Hammertone color. Matches the table saw although the hammer part didnt come out too well.. I dont like it but I am not changing it. I wire wheeled the handle, screws and retaining plate. I flipped the jaws over. I have yet to purchase new pipe jaws and I need to find the t handles for the swivel. Ready to work...

looks great! There is an end cap that goes over the hole in the back to keep dirt out in case you weren't aware.

That thing looks great. You did a very nice job. I'd just like to add one thing if I may. I have heard of people flipping the jaws upside down before with success, but on yours I don't know if it will work very well. It looks like the the bottoms of the jaws aren't contacting the vise at all and if that is so, it will put all the pressure onto the bolts whenever you beat on it with a hammer. Again, it looks awesome as is, but I just thought I would let you know before you're surprised with broken jaw bolts.

I didnt realize the bolt holes in the jaws were not centered (top to bottom) until I installed. It was a good trick I learned here and thought it was worth a try. The top sides are pretty rough. I will either flip them back over or get new ones (~65 bucks) I was also going to get a cap when I bought the jaws. That hasnt happened yet. For now, other than the swivel locks (t-handles) Its done. I have a little girl coming in March and wanted to get it usable without spending too much ching... I have an IR air compressor that needs some love too. Thanks for all the comments!!:beer:

Thanks for the comments!! This is the last of the vise purchases. I will forward them on and buy/ship to people here like I did with John. They dont come up that often where they are really worth payin 65 bucks to ship.


Alex71, can you talk to me about keystock?? I have never heard of that.
