I'm planning a (20, 22 or 24) X 28 X 9 garage build over the spring and summer. (New home purchased last spring but I'd like a shop and I'd like the wife to be able to get her car in the attached garage (20 X 20) during the winter.) I'll do all I can on my own and with friends and sub out what is beyond my skill set. The primary use of this critter will be to maintain the dirt bikes my 19 year-old and myself race (hare scrambles) as well as maintain the vehicles in my fleet (two cars for the wife and I plus a car for each of our 3 children).
Anyway, does the following capture a workable step-by-step ordering of the tasks I'm facing for this garage build:
0. Understand local codes and contruction/liability insurance
1. Make/puchase a plan (including details on the foundation, framing / windows & doors, exterior)
2. Get needed permits
3. Clearing and Excavation
4. Utilities Hookup??
5. Footings
6. Foundations (water proofing?), drainage, and back filling foundation
7. Concrete Slabs
8. Get framing lumber, exterior sheathing, exterior house wrap, order trusses (either 6/12 scissor or attic storage), shingles
9. Framing with sheathing & trim,
10. windows, exterior & garage doors
10. Roofing with shingles to match house
11. Rough Electrical
12. Masonry / brick veneer to match house
13. Insulation
13. Soffit and Facia
14. Drywall (optional)
15. Priming & Painting Walls, Interior Trim (optional - See #11)
16. Finish electrical
17. Driveways (really just apron to existing new drive way & Sidewalks
18. Invite friends over for a BBQ and beer to celebrate.
