Is this air compressor repairable?

Hi guys,

I have bought a used Mark D-500-7.5-DY air compressor (7,5 horsepower, 500 liter tank, DELTA-WYE start).
It has a direct driven two stage compressor pump.

The problem is it has a broken reed valve. The broken valve has also caused damage to the valve plate. Please see the pictures.
Of course, this being an Italian compressor, parts seem impossible to obtain. :dunno:

I have thought of some solutions:
1. Replace the damaged reed valve, and do nothing with the plate.
2. Mill out a pocket of the damaged section of the bottom plate, and make a fitting steel insert. Glue / braze this in place.
3. Fill the damaged section with Belzona super XL metal.
4. Plug one of the damaged outlet shut, so that only one valve is in operation.

Anybody has any suggestions to this?

I would try #1. An air compressor doesn't need perfect compression/leak down performance. As long as it can overcome any leakage and still produce decent pressure it may simply take a little longer to charge the tank and may run a little higher duty cycle during high air consumption tasks. What do you have to loose trying #1?

#3 and #4 would be my last preference. If this super metal is an epoxy compound then it might not last since the cylinder head on a compressor can get very hot and that's the downfall of epoxy based fillers.

#2 would be a good choice but a lot of work due to the precision needed.

Good luck.

The problem is you will pop the interstage safety valve if you can't get the valves to seat correctly. If you can't find the valve plates you can fill it with metal and lap it.
