Is this an SB 707?

Hi,

I have been a long time lurker of the site. I have always been able to find the answers to my questions until now. Can anyone tell me if this is indeed a saylor and beall 707 pump? The pump looks right but the tank does not. Reminds me of a kellogg. The only tags I can see from the pics say "american air compressor corporation". With the way the chain is run should I worry about the cast iron intercoolers cracking?

If you have access to the pump, check the fasteners on it. In my experience, if they are sae, it's a SB. If they are metric, it's a clone.

I don't know if SB units were ever rebranded. Probably have to call SB about that.

The unit is about 6 hours away. Before I call SB is there anyplace on the pump that would have some kind of identifying marks? I will call the owner to get as much info as I can before I call SB.

The pump has the old slotted style hold down nuts for the valves. Also, the relief valves on the intercoolers are consistent with what SB used on compressors of that era. Also, the castings look clean. I feel confident this is a SB compressor pump.

Thank you. I dont care who's tank it sits on as long as the tank is in good shape. Its the pump I want to be genuine. SB did not answer the phone yesterday. I'll try again today. I hope to go up Saturday to take a look at and buy the unit. Thank you again for the help.

For what its worth, the belt guard looks genuine Saylor- Beall.
The clones that I have seen don’t carry the same style belt guard as the genuine SB.
As far as the pump goes, looks to be genuine from the pics, but without serial numbers…..
Also, paint color looks to be very close to SB but with the pics hard to be sure.

I too have never seen or heard of a re-branded SB, but that doesn't mean they don’t exist. Many clones do unfortunately.

Thank you for the phone number. I had been unable to find that before. I called both companies. The short story is if the 707 pump has the casting numbers 4045 on the cylinders it is a Saylor. I called the seller and he checked the pump numbers and its correct. I'm going up Saturday to check it out. I'll let everyone know if I got it or not. Thanks again for all the info. I wouldn't have felt confidant in its legitimacy without it.

Just a quick update. Thank you everyone for the help. I brought the compressor home on Saturday. It looked to be in decent shape and ran well. The tank is from 1970. I want to get the numbers off the pump to see if it matches. Now I'm off to get a magnetic starter and find out what a decent brand of pressure switch is.

I got the compressor wired up last weekend for some test runs. Still trying to stop some leaks at fittings. I think the pipe dope I got is just not very good. The compressor its self seems to run well. It does leak oil when its just sitting though. My only thought is that it has to be the inspection plates that are leaking. Are there any site sponsors or online retailers that are a good source for SB parts?

I'm sure I overpaid. I was looking for two years though and the cost of not having one was starting to out weigh the cost of overpaying. I'm still on the hunt for a good parts vendor if anyone knows of one.
