I need to have bent up a little mid-pipe, attached is a pdf. It is for my snowmobile. Is it possible to make this bend, or am I going to have to have a bunch of angles cut to make it?

what are you planning to bend it with?

Are you planning to take it to an exhaust shop?

The common tube benders at an exhast shop may have a tough time putting two bends that close to each other. generally they have two "flat" dies that wrap around a half circle die to make the bends. one of those flat dies will end up smashing the first bend.

my recommendation woudl be to make on bend that includes the total bend amount. then cut it half way, flip 180 and weld back together.

you will have to round out the tube to get it to match as the beding process leaves a semi-circular area, not nice and round.

this is all assuming that you have access to an exhaust tube bender, not a mandrel bender....

best of luck!

i'd think two j bends cut right would give you what you need. or buy one round donut and cut it how you need.

www.stahlheaders.com see if they have a radius tight enough to get you your bend. i have another local place i order mandrel pieces from but not sure if they have a site to look at.

Awesome, what I have drawn up there is 2.25 radius and they have it. If a shop can't make it for me I can get it from them, awesome man.

EDIT: the 2-1/4" pipe is a 3 inch radius, but I think I could get that to work.

it can be done but not with the generic benders available at the muffler shop

buy a single U bend
cut the pieces as needed and weld them together

Cool guys, I have a few options now if they can't do anything at this place. The place where I was going to go is a large shop and they do mandrel now that I think of it. I will find out today if they can do it. if not this place http://www.maperformance.com/maperfo...-map-fab1.html will work. Those donuts are a bit expensive for my blood.

Thanks srmofo. I design large duct where we use pie cuts (the technical term is gores), but nothing this small. I wonder if I could get this priced through my company instead....Hmm.

And thanks to everyone else, if this option doesn't work, I will work down the line.

Patriot exhaust sells J bends and U mandrel bends. You can get all different Dias and rads. I recently built a set of headers with them for $90 CDN...you can probly get away with one piece...less than $10. Cut a few times and make 2 welds and its done.

What is it for? I'm just curious as we hydro-form our own pipes for race-sleds. Always cool to see others work.

That Machine is awesome too....

There was a company in one of the hotrod mags that would send you some flex ducting,,, u shaped your exhaust system the way and routing u wanted,,, shot this expanding foam in the ducting,, let it harden,,Box it up and ship it to them and they will send you and exhaust system bent to what you sent them,,,,It was very cool
