I just got this bottom toolbox, it's a Mac MB7200 1-R for $400.
Needs some new paint but everything is in good shape.
Is it a good deal?
Any ideas as to how old this box is?

The top box is a Waterloo Magnum Plus. (I've had this for years, just never found a 34" bottom for it until now.)
The Waterloo is a heavy box, of similar quality as the Mac.
I like the 9 small drawers, with the drop front.

seems like a fair amount of wasted space with the weird sides on that the box, or are the corners square and its an illusion.

I wonder if you could modify it and use that space, maybe a drop in holder to hold long extension, screwdrivers, breaker bars, etc.

I don't think $400 is out of the ball park if both boxes have bearing slides, I'd still offer less.

box looks like mid 90's to me.
i'm not a fan of much of anything made by MAC 'specially tool boxes. i used to work with a guy that bought a set of those boxes, wayyyyyy too much wasted space with the corners beveled like that.

they are way nicer then anyone thinks. the early 90's mac boxes are very rugged!!!

I have a 1997 MAC catalog that shows that box. The weird side angles are shown along with two MB7270/C side boxes mounted either side, kind of looks neat offset back.

Man this is a tough crowd!!!!!!!!!

$400 for a Mac box,,,,,,,,with BB slides,,,,,,,,,nice looking casters,,,,fits your top box,,,,,,,,, yeah its a good deal.

I'd say you are approaching you **** status and if I saw it in person, I may even award that status to you.

It seems that many here lately think a deal needs to be a robbery to be a good purchase. While I try to be the king of deals, I also spend 20 hours a week to earn that status. I'm at a point in my life where my kids are grown and my debt is low and business has been around long enough to generate income even if I don't bust my **** all the time, so I can be a bit flexible. Many here need to work a ton and spend time with the family and take care of other things and can't put the effort into finding killer deals. Cut these guys a little slack. This fellow made a very nice purchase. Is it the deal of the century? Probably not. Is it a very good deal? Yes it is. Could he clean and lube and flip it for a profit, I think so, so lighten up a bit.

I gotta go against the grain here. I really like that box. I bought one of those new in 1995 or 1996 and sold it to a friend a few years later. I now work with him and see it everyday. It is beat to hell and still functioning great.

They are the predecessor of the Macsimiser series with the 45 degree corners. At the time, when they came out, there was nothing else out there like them. New, different and fresh looking, not just another red box. This was also one of the first boxes to have color options. You could specify either chrome or black drawer pulls, and either red or black drawers, as well as red or black doors on the half and full lockers.

One of the things that turned me on to them is the recessed drawer pulls. All the other Mac's of that era had external drawer pulls that always seemed to snag on clothing, cords, hoses, ect.

I'd give $400 for it, but that's just me. Oh, and good luck finding the matching top chest or lockers......my friend has been looking for years.

The beveled corners are neat, because there is another steel
plate that runs from top to bottom that all the drawers fasten to.
I removed the bottom drawer, and wow is it heavy, the fronts have
double walls as well.
If the weather co-operates going to sandblast and paint this weekend.

I don't care, just glad to get my top box, off the bench it was sitting on. :lol_hitti

I wouldn't even paint it, it looks "used". I think it's a great score man, if I had the money & came across one like that, I'd get it in a heartbeat. Way better than the thin-metal economy boxes made now, in my opinion.

Yeah I wanted to run down and check out that mac box in indy you linked, but got a late response saying I could. I was hoping to give them a reasonably low offer. Even at a grand it looks to be worth it, great looking condition.

I like the boxes design. Really how much space are you losing 4" total maybe. Some of you guys are so picky.

Got a MB Top box that I paid $300 for with some dents. Accuride slides are massive. I needed some new plastic detents and Accuride sent them to Me Free for the whole box. You did Good, US made and way better then a HF box. Stir/Stir.:lol_hitti

I'd give $400 for it. In my area that same box would CL for $1400 and they would take $800 for it.:lol_hitti I looked at a Snappy box 2 weeks ago. the cat said he paid $5k for it and wanted $2k for it. Between the rust and the non ball bearing slides I told him " good luck" and walked. ya did good!!

I brought this thread back from the dead because I saw a MB7200 for $600. I'm thinking about getting it every though I don't dig on MAC tools anymore. It's built very heavy duty. The casters are huge and are heavy duty. Accuride ball bearing slides every drawer. It needs a little cleaning and a key cut for the lock but otherwise it's solid. I have a couple KR59's that need a bottom roller to put them on.

$600?? buy it , buy it!! like I said its still an $800 box in my area.

The drawer lips are a little scratched, some dents on the back about the size of a half dollar in two spots. It's not perfect and no keys. Drawers seem cool though. He had a pair of 5 ton Snappy jack stands too and he says he'll throw them in for that price.
I'm thinking about it. I'm not into MAC anymore though. I dunno. Would be box number 6 in the garage.
