Actually the extension welded to the 5003 Pony clamp jaw is bent. If you look carefully at the jaws, I'm confident you'll find that those long jaws are actually two pieces. Someone has welded extensions to the jaws.

Seeing as it looks bent in the opposite direction it would be if it was overloaded it might have been bent on purpose (factory or a mod) perhaps an attempt to counteract flex under load. I've never seen that style of pipe clamp before though. The jaws on a clamp should always remain parallel but that by design looks like it would necessarily flex.

Most likely modified to use as a spreader which is why the one side is bent inwards.

Respectfully, I don't think thats possible! The sliding part of the jaw that's supposed to "fix" against the pipe only "jams" in one direction which is the "clamp" direction. The other direction (---the puller/spreader action) that "fixed" jaw would just slide along the pipe with almost no resistance......

If you put the sliding part of the pony clamp on in the reverse direction it will then hold tight. pony sells extended height ends for the purpose of using the pipe clamp as a spreader. I use mine like this when welding something like a workbench frame and it moves in from the heat and needs to be pushed out.
