Seen this ad a couple times already but keep forgetting to post it. He must be smoking the funny stuff.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1980s-Mercedes-5-inch-Ratchet-2-5-inch-extension-tool-wrench-Factory-Original-/192080439558?hash=item2cb8e2e906:g:ndYAAOSwal5YKmkv&item=192080439558&vxp=mtr

The body of the listing if you don't feel like clicking on the link:

1980's Mercedes 5 inch Ratchet 2.5 inch extension tool wrench. Factory Original. S-K 40961 extension. S-K 40970, 1981526 Ratchet wrench. Keep in mind these are Mercedes metric tool found in the factory tool kit in most 1980s Mercedes cars and trucks. Last part I have from my last Mercedes. These are original and hard to find. This tool has an unknown date of production. It does come from an 1980s Mercedes but date of production could be older. Price has been reduces for fast sale.

Probably... what he found in his Mercedes. The factory MB kits never came with a ratchet and definitely not SK brand to boot.

yeah... that's the unobtainium model 40970 6.35 mm drive ratchet!

okay but seriously....

no whackier than stuff I see on there every day.

I know.. .$2000 for a set of Craftsman wrenches might seem like a lot of money, but consider that the price includes shipping!

What's even whackier than the asking price is that Ebay is saying that 15 people have bought that set! Go figure! :headscrat:

^ I picked up a brand new never used 40970 about a week ago for $14.00 incl. shipping.
On any day of the week you should be able to get them on Ebay in cherry condition for $16 - $22 including shipping.

Makes you wonder about other eBay supplied info., like seller ratings. Some sellers have brick and mortar businesses. If I suspect they do I will look for a BBB rating or local reviews. I found one high rated eBay seller had an F from the local BBB.

They probably sold a number of them at a lower price and then jacked it up for attention. Of course they aren't expecting to sell it for two grand.

On Ebay, a "discount sale" or low price doesn't attract any attention. A stupid high price on something silly does, though. I've done it a few times.

I had a Matchbox car listed for five years at one point, minus time I'd been away somewhere and paused the account. For about half that time I listed it at five dollars with calculated shipping.

Two and a half years, and it didn't sell. So, I just wanted to get rid of it, and dropped it to one dollar with free shipping. Another two and a half years.

No watchers. Ever. The number of views was still in double digits after all that time.

Then, I just decided to have some fun with it...

I cranked it up to $5,000 or best offer. That got the world's attention!

Left it there for a week with funny listing text calling it the most rare Matchbox car in the world, because it's the only one that nobody wants at any price, and then dropped it back to a dollar. It sold. I sent the buyer a special certificate.

They loved the whole joke of it.

That seller linked, however, looks like a drop-shipper. One can do that well, but it's a royal pain to get everything timed right if you don't have a warehouse.

They might have jacked it up to keep the listing active but not have any sales till they get more in stock or something. I'm willing to bet it will drop back down in a week or two.

As long as it's active all the people watching it will probably keep it on their list without thinking. Also they don't have to re-enter any info in eBay or their own computer system. It's just being lazy is all...

Yep. During the warm months when I go to the flea market, SK ratchets in all sizes depending on condition can be found from $5 (okay to pretty good) to $10 (very good condition).

Picked up a 1/2 - worn exterior with practically new teeth and cartridge (after cleaning) for $8 and what appeared to be an unused 1/4 for $5 over the last couple of years.
